Nicolette
So my mum who lives in Wellington has a 5ft tank with all the accesories sitting in her garage. I want that tank. She wants to give me the tank. How the heck do I get the tank to Pukekohe in one piece; short of driving down and bringing it back in the van. Wer'e thinking we will have to make a wooden box for it to go in and use a trucking company? Any and all ideas welcome.
Ianab
short of driving down and bringing it back in the van. Rent a van... you should go and visit your Mum occasionaly anyway  Seriously it will probably work out cheaper than trying to find a transport company that is either willing to take it, or able to get it there in one piece, for a sensible price. Cheers Ian
becc4
I agree with Ianab, hard to find trucking firms who will take tanks...long weekend coming up in a couple of months that would be a perfect time to take a trip down. Or book rail now get the cheap seats and rent a van back??
Nicolette
actually we already own a obscenely large van... But mum is up visiting now and we have like a million children so a 12 hr trip there and another 12hr trip back is not this mums idea of a good time... I guess I was just looking for an easy answer. Guess we will be going on a road trip.
David R
PBT have a section specializing in delicate things, cant remember what they're called. You'll pay thru the nose for it, so if you can borrow a van and feel like a road trip one weekend it might work out cheaper.
TM
Use Filway transport, thats who i use and have never had a problem. Should be about $130per m3 +gst, not that dear.

tHEcONCH
Why not just buy a new tank locally? It would probably be cheaper than the petrol and a lot less hassle.
Nicolette
its a 5ft tank and light hood with $300 filter and over $500 worth or accesories. Dont think I could buy that locally very cheaply at all.
jim r
If all the acessories were put inside and the tank well wrapped you should be able to get mainfreight to transport it ( might cost $100-$200 ) you can also get insurance unless they have changed their policy. In any event why not give them a ring to find out ? Especially if it is as valuable as you say.
Ianab
Fliway transport would probably get it to you safe, for a price. They normally carry computers and photocopiers, so they are used to fragile stuff. Normal freight or courier company.. umm... no way I'd ship a heavy fragile object with them. (I do some computer work with with some freight companies - I have seen their forklift drivers work  ) Cheers Ian
sub.z
I have also used fliways to move a 5 foot tank and found them good Cost me $48 (or close) for a 2 hour trip. Maybe $150? for your trip They also use people to move them not forklifts cos the first freight company broke the tank with a forklift
