carznkats
If the other skimmer is too big... how about this one? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pets-animals/Fish/Pumps-filters/auction-110941170.htm Cheers Wilson, I think I'll just need to get another pump (oh MTS what it does to my pockets!!  ) By the way where is your tank going? davidb
na you don't want one of those. I would recommend a Reef Octopus B100-F Skimmer ~RRP~ $244.90NZD. you don't want a cheap skimmer or you will have more problems down the track

carznkats
Well, I've gone ahead and bought 12Kgs of that live rock from trademe and am going to change the tank over this weekend to saltwater to start the cycling process.  Am going to Auzzie end of next week so might have a look at skimmers over there...any ideas on some good skimmers I should look at? Cheers everyone for your help
Rockerpeller
Everyone screams Deltec, but the price may be roughly the same over there so you may as well try and find a 2nd hand one here. try look for temp controllers, auto top-off etc gear over there. may save you a few $, who knows. carznkats
Well I've decided to upgrade the size of the tank to a 600Lx450Wx700H tank   So thats on order and will be ready once we get back from our holiday :bounce: The live rock is currently in a plastic tub with the fluval and an airstone to try to keep up with it. I have ordered some potbelly seahorses, which won't be ready for at least another 6 weeks, so hopefully once they arrive things will be cycled and ready to go. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: sooooo looking forward to having it all set up. So shopping trip for auzzie might set me back a few bucks
carznkats
What does any one think of this protein skimmer? http://www.aquariumproducts.com.au/prod1708.htm Is it a good deal? or maybe this one? main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=144'>http://www.proteinskimmer.com.au/index.php? main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=144 or Z140146343672QQihZ004QQcategoryZ20756QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem'>http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Octopus-NW-150-6530-Recirculating-Protein-Skimmer_W0QQitem Z140146343672QQihZ004QQcategoryZ20756QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem or 140146343672&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=active_view_item&usedrule1=StoreCatToStoreCat&refwidgettype= cross_promot_widget'>http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140147783191&ssPageName=MERC_VI_RSCC_Pr4_PcY_BIN_Stores_IT&refitem= 140146343672&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=active_view_item&usedrule1=StoreCatToStoreCat&refwidgettype= cross_promot_widget These are just a few that i've found on the net. I'm trying to stay within budget, but still want to get an okay one that'll last me awhile. The deltec is probably abit more than I want to spend given that some people don't use skimmers with seahorses.
reef
Try Organisms in Christchurch as John can help you with the skimmers. Not as cheap as overseas however much better for warranty issues. The Deltec mce300 is ok, not the best deltec but will be ok for your tank. The budget Octopus skimmers might be ok but theyy dont skim that well and the hangon ones flood easy. If you have limit space then a hangon skimmer would be a good idea.
