fishboi
females mature earlier than males, basically shes up for it but their not intrested. its quit common but sometimes can lead to female biting the tips of the tail clean off. Insect Direct
I thought it was the males tht tend to bite the tips off as the females normally try getting away from them but i have seen my males trying to m8 the others and they sometimes get around the wrong way and try mating the head of the other turtle and i always think crikey hes really asking for it lol! got any pics of the reeves and how easy is it to tell the difference between the males/females? fishboi
yeah exact opposite when they get older especially if they're newly introduced to each other.
broms2
The two males took a hammering yesterday, both have slightly shorter tips now! What is a typical age for these to breed, I thought it was a bit older than these. all is calm as if nothing happened at the moment
fishboi
yeah males wont be intrested till about 3-4 and the female wont actually breed till 2-3 years of age.
broms2
Also forgot to mention, also have a couple of young snakenecks in there as well, all have been getting along for around 6 months, was watching last night to see if the Reeves were still going at it and one of the Snakenecks had a go at one of the Reeves! Thinking of separating them all for a while or will they sort themselves out?
