Blutack????

Strange I know but here goes my question......does anyone know if Blutack is safe to use in fishtanks???

The reason....well I have one of those lantern ornaments, and want to place my underwater light inside it, and have it held in position (im also wanting to try and close off some of the space inside to stop fish hiding in there all the time) I know you can get silicone for the job, but was looking to use something I already have - a tube of silicone is something I wouldnt use much, and I cant justify the cost for maybe 4-5 spots of the stuff!

Thanks for any help, or other suggestions,

ChrisMack

Once upon a time (and possibly even now) you could get small toothpaste tube sized tubes of silicone for $10 or so. This may be a way to go...

Caulking guns are useful things to have around anyway and pretty cheap from Mitre 10 etc...

Hi ChrisMack

I got a tube for a caulking gun for around $16 at Placemakers. Where in ChCh do you reside? I drive in to Uni (Ilam) several days a week and some silicon and gun might be able to be temporarily 'shot off' at your place providing your not a complete lunatic (mild lunatics accepted :) ).

Hi Kriber, hey thanks for the offer, however the problem is now solved......managed to track down some spare silicone from a friend (no not Pamela Anderson  ) and the task is underway

Some might call me a lunatic...then again I have been called worse too!

Once again...thanks

i always refered to her as a silicon based lifeform - her life (or at lease reputation) revolves around her... silicon...

anyway...

there is some fancy stuff you can get for fixing ponds and pools, a silicon that bonds if it is under water, but it comes in a rod, you break off a bit, knead it for a few minutes and then press it into the area that needs fixing. i would assume that it is safe for fish as it is often sold with pond equipment so the curing agent should be non-toxic.
