wasp
Still pretty impressive though, imagine tipping all that back into the tank. Just shows what great cleaners skimmers are. And for a home made one, awesome!
Oliver
I have now got 3 new fish two Bangai Cardanalls and a manderinfish (my favourite) This is my tank (picture taken today) ] The brown algae on the back of the glass and rock still hasn't gone away does any body know if this every will? because its looking pretty ugly.. would growing macro algae in the sump help make it go away? What types of macro algae are available for growing in the sump and how would I go about getting it My sump is lit at night with a metal halide. thanks Oli p.s this is my manderin fish called mandy after my mum
wilson
hi oliver where do you get your marine stuff from?
camnbron
Hi Oliver, Yes the diatoms will eventually go away, when I had diatoms I syphoned it off the areas that I could to, my snails took care of the rest. Have you got any marine snails in your tank? Sometimes you can be lucky and get some good ones as hitchhikers on corals and rock. If not, another local reefer might give you some. Another option is to go down to the rockpools (St Kilda would be best bet for you - great rockpools there!) and get some cats eye snails (they are the black ones, when you pick them up their mouth/foot retracts and a green "cats eye" covers up the hole). Even though they aren't tropical marines they do well in tropical tanks if you slowly acclimatise them before putting in both to your tank water parameters and temperature. Take a few hours to slowly do this, and they will be sweet. I have a dozen in my tank since I started and they are quite good at cleaning. Oliver
hi oliver where do you get your marine stuff from? Hi I have got my marine gear from all over the place, from fellow forum members and my dad also made most of the expensive parts of the tank e.g the lights the protein scimmer and the cabinet.
