Gannet Posted May 27, 2007 Report Posted May 27, 2007 hey guys, will an aquaris 2400(aqua one) canister filter be enought flow for the 8ft tank? the tank will be set up using the over flow into the sump and from the sump the canister will pump the water back into the tanks, the sump is fill of media and so is the canister, but will the be enough flow to make the tanks water move fast enough to use all the media, and keep the water movement up... does this make sence? im kinda half asleep still... GZ_Loach Posted May 27, 2007 Report Posted May 27, 2007 my 8ft tank is ony 444L and i have two 1200LPH internal filters, i have good amount of fish in there and even with weekly water changes the filters get pretty dirty, the water stays clean tho. Quote
Ira Posted May 28, 2007 Report Posted May 28, 2007 Probably not. You didn't mention what volume your tank is. I'm guessing 400ish-800ish liters. But if you're using the cannister as a return pump you'll be losing probably the majority of the flow because it will be working agains a meter or more head. So it will probably end up somewhere under 1000 LPH. If you use it as it's intended and use a seperate return pump from the sump then it should be good. Quote

evilknieval69 Posted May 28, 2007 Report Posted May 28, 2007 Yea, canister filters are designed to work with no head height. Using it as a return pump from the sump will lower the flow rate heaps (as ira stated) and will possibly burn out the pump prematurely Quote
