jayci Posted May 21, 2007 Report Share Posted May 21, 2007 I was having a look at my daphnia culture today and notice some eggs. The eggs were in a slimey jelly packet, the packet was the size and shape of a common maggot. In the packet was a few hundred eggs(had a look under the mircoscope). The packets also appear to be suppended from the surface with a very sticky strand. Anybody got any ideas of what they could be. Wild ones (Like yours) could carry disease as they could have been anywhere and done anything before you got em, comercial ones are kept in a controlled enviroment i think, which is why they say "disease free" on the packet. try feeding your ones to one fish (guppy) every week for a few months and see if anything happens. As far as I know the commercial ones are collected from sludge pools associated with sewerage ponds and the reason that they claim to be disease free is because the have been nuked. So the ones that you get from your bath, washing machine bowl etc ponds at home would probable be cleaner and better than the nuked ones.
