Milet
I Know it seems like a DUMB question, but what are sum ways to make a hill or raised section in your substrate stay there? I Try every time i start up a new tank but eventually all the stones end out even. Help meeeeeee
GZ_Loach
get something like chicken wire (preferably something plastic). make the hill then cover with mesh, secure the ends of the mesh with something heavy like a rock so it cant move then sprinkle more stone overtop to hide the mesh. iv never tried that but i think it should work, because thats how you reinforce banks to stop them falling apart. Also, get an object (like a squashed circle sorta shape), cover with a thin layer of silicon and quickly sprinkle DRY stones over untill theres no more silicon showing, then wait for it to set and then place back in the tank and then cover with more stones. could also make an awesome cave that way
sharn
why not just re-arrange your hills each time you level them out with a w/c or whatever? only takes a quick flick of the siphon or hand... sorry i dont have any crafty ways of doing it
Fishkeepa
rocks to hold up the gravel is how i do it hth
Tiden
Perhaps you could cut up a drink bottle(2L) in the shape of a hill and do what GZ loach said and silicone some substrate to that........

Caryl
Other ways I have seen is to bank it up behind driftwood (which is what I have done) or othres have actually siliconed sheets of glass or perspex to the base or sides of the tank to act as retaining walls. Loopy
Get a breeding pair of gold severum. Dang things are making hills and valleys all through our 6ft tanks. They are forever digging and rearranging the furniture. Occasionally think it might be nice to NOT see the bare glass in the bottom of the tank all the time.
Steves Killies
Could try doing what Gz loach suggested in their second paragraph using a coconut shell cut in half. Does make a good cave for...cave spawners...,you could even try to attach moss to it and then you have green hills
