Ash T
The 6 are still good Nitrites have risen and starting to fall already. Nitrates starting to show up. Still no sign of Ammonia. Some green algae starting to grow too. Going good so far 8)
Fish_Tank
I think the cycle has almost finished when the nitites have gone compleatly then it is finnished. after that you can start slowly stocking the tank..about 2 fish a fortnight to get your biological filter built up. good luck
MGilchrist
for nitrates to go up your tank is cycling and building up bacteria colonies, but remember every time you increase fish load you have another cycle, the effects should be less, but only if you carry on slow and steady. if cycling was done with with 2 neons and then chuck in 10 full grown angels, then in all likelihood many or all will die from the rapidly deteriorating conditions(exaggerated example I know) A rule of thumb i use is not to add more than half again the existing fish load, others may disagree but it works for me

Ash T
Well, yes this is an old thread dug up from way back then, but i thought id give a little up date on my tank The 6 original penguin tetras are still doing fine , and have put on some weight  I also added 4 albino catfish and they are doing great too Before i got the catfish, i did have a couple of algae eaters for about 2 weeks, but they died not long after i put the catfish in Its had the 6 tetras and 4 albinos for the last 3 or 4 months, and things are going well So, now im looking forward to moving out into my own place and getting a few more tanks up and running
