jason_sheman, before we go anywhere, welcome to the FNZAS forum.

Not a good way to start if you ask me with having to report a sick fish, but let's get going.

First of all, this part of the fish is called it's gills.

They are used to enable the fish to obtain oxygen from the water.

If the water conditions are not right, they can become inflamed (going red) thru to actually turning to mush with the obvious results of death.

You will have to explain to us;

what size tank you have,

how long it has been set up,

how many fish are in it,

what sort of fish they are,

what temperature is the tank being run at,

what is the pH of the water.

I have my own views on what is wrong with the fish, but to confirm it, the above questions will have to be answered for any of us here to be able to give you any concrete reply to help.

Hello and welcome.

I agree with Alan. If you answer his questions we would be more able to answer the questions.

When we have more information we should be able to be more help but in the meantime doing a small water change every day or two might help and won't do any harm.

thx for reply..

my tank size is 37x24x34cm

i have the tank for 3 weeks time..

there are total 10 very small fish inside

2 x guppy, 2 x very very small guppy, 2 x golden baby bistlenose, 2 x baby golden catfish 2x kuhli loach

the tank is between 25.5 (night) degree to 28 degree

and the ph is between 7.0-7.2

If the tank has only been running for 3 weeks it won't have fully cycled.

Sorry, I am not very technical and I'm sure someone here will provide a better explanation but cycling is the time it takes for the good bacteria to build up in a filter. When there are enough good ones they gobble up the bad ones!

Because it hasn't cycled, ammonia and nitrates will be building up in the water so you need to do small, frequent water changes. I overstocked a new tank once and did a water change of about 20% every night for a few weeks. You might need to add water ager (dechlorinator) if you water is heavily chlorinated.

Hope that helps.
