Brianemone
Does anyone know how the heating cable that they sell here would compare to a aquarium branded item from a LFS???? https://secure.sog.co.nz/store.htm
Alan
Brian, can't seem to find the wire you mean off the SOG site. If you can find it, post the address of it.
Brianemone
Unfortunatly the SOG site doesnt give a url for each product, if you search for heater its should come up with it.
SpidersWeb
Taken from the SOG site. They don't have thermostats, otherwise they look fine to me. You'd need to ask the SOG staff to find out if they're water proof or not. I'd go for the 15 watt model, just enough to make current without overheating the tank. Another common alternative (cue Caryl) is to use a heating pad and thermostat, which goes under the aquarium. I don't think its necessary unless you have no fertilising substrate. Our plants are going phsyco with the daltons aquatic mix, and I can't imagine why anybody would want faster growth, I'm pruning weekly now*. * Combined with 0.9W/L 6500K T8 lighting and DIY yeast powered CO2
Brianemone
How effective would it be to put it under the tank embedded into the poly rather than in the gravel??????
Alan
Very effective as far as heating goes. We have one on the NZKA show stand, all of the tanks are heated in this fashion. If you are doing multiple tank setup tho, it is important that you have approx the same amount of water in each tank as the control tank, which is the one where the thermostst is set up in. The thermostat is the same that you'll find on a heater/stat, but without the heating coil.
Insect Direct
If you search thermostat they have 2 on offer but are rather pricey at $129 but should work well. exactly what ive been looking for to make an incubator, although im sure these can be purchased elsewhere abit cheaper
