water coming from the bottom of my 4ft tank

did the usual WC yesterday, took some fish out & put the hood back on & was plugging everything back in & there was water dripping from under the stand. my tank is on a steel stand & has a board then poly & the water was dripping from a corner. its at the back & no water was spilled because i hadnt started filling it. it dripped for about 2 minutes, enough for me to panick & we took the hood off & statred to try & catch the fish & change tanks, then it stopped. now i dont know if there is a crack in the bottom, but surely it would have kept on dripping??? so i dont know if i should strip the tank or leave it, haven't replaced the water i took out yet, thought i would get up this morning to wet carpet!! checked the air lines to & they were dry so i have no idea where the water came from. :-?

my parents had a leak like this from one of the seals in the tank, it would go lots some times then stop others and then it drained half the tank of water on the ground during the night, the leak was tiny halfway up the side of the tank, good luck and i hope its nothing similar.

If its stopped its not going to be a leak in your tank.

There still can be as Tim Tam said. I have had a tank seal leak. Started up one day, turned the filters off it stopped, started the tank up again it started again. If the leak is low down, gravel can pack into the seal too, stopping the leak. {so I have been told}

Frenchy :D

I was thinking airline when I was reading that but you say they're dry. I had my 300L totally empty from a airline falling down the back which started a self-siphon :evil: Still...better than a cracked tank. Maybe the leak is near the top and once it dropped below that level it stopped leaking. Goodluck.

If a seal has gone, it is a good time to get a new tank and then rebuild the leaking one.

It is normally a sign of the glue aging, then joint failure at any time.

Murphy's Law states, when not home for the weekend or when asleep. Seldom while watching)

or a manufacturing fault.

To find a fault like that, dose the tank with methylene blue, and you will see where the blue water tracks thru the joint.
