No, its not where you put the top of the filter onto the cannister but on the motor casing itself. To see where its leaking you have to unscrew the two screws and remove the small outer cover off the top of the motorpart.

I think mine is very very old - came with a whole lot of bits and pieces I got off TM (hang on filters, hoses, vacuums + this for $15) about 13months ago. We have sealed the hole up - used gasket glue and no probs at the moment, I am working on getting a new filter as well in case.
