Adrienne
Finally have my new cf1200 filter - set it up last night. Took forever to prime but all things come to those who wait. A question for the knowing - every minute or so a stream of air bubbles rise from the bottom and go out through the outlet into the tank. What would be causing all the air to get in - you can see the air bubbles at the bottom of the filter as the water comes through from the intake. Eventually the air pocket gets through to the top and is released through the outlet.
Zoban
What I have found from brand new media is that it will take a bit (time) for all the air to be forced out of the ceramics/bioballs etc.. May not be related but is what I have noticed.
smidey
I have a cf1000 & have never had any air bubbles going through the outlet after two or three seconds after it starts to run. the bioballs supplied with the filter wont trap air, niether will the ceramic bio rings. it sounds to me that there may be a small air leak somewhere i would reconnect all the pipes to the connectors etc & see if that changes anything. smidey
Finally have my new cf1200 filter - set it up last night. Took forever to prime but all things come to those who wait. . When I need to prime my cf1000 I simply blow into the out let which pushes the water into the tank, then suck which brings the water from the tank into the canister, the water only needs to be partly up the outlet to turn the unit on & for it to work instantely. slimNZ
I tilt the canister to its four site to let trap air out and refill the canister before starting it up. So far this work fine for me.
Adrienne
the air appears to be coming in with the water - you can see airbubbles and water coming into the bottom of the filter and then they rise to the top and out the outlet. ryanjury
Is your filter intake near an air stone or bubbles caused by your filter outlet it could be sucking air in with the water.. Also if you look at all your joints it should be easy to see where the leak is coming from as there will be no bubbles before a leaky joint and a stream of them after. Adrienne
The only thing the filter intake is near is the intake to the uv sterilizer I run in this tank. There are no airbubbles in the intake hose, the only bubbles you can see are where the water coming in and being pushed down to the bottom is, in other words you can see the flow into the bottom part of the cannister, then the bubbles form, burp their way up to the top between the side of the cannister and the media containers and exit via the outlet pipe. The only thing I can think of is that the surface the filter is sitting on may not be completely even.
slimNZ
I though UV sterillizer only for outdoor pond. What are you keeping and what is your tank size?
bOi
maybe try to add a bit more water thru that circular knob/opening thingy thats is at the top of the filter, in between the outlets? i did that with my cf700 and it completely removed all the air bubbles in the filter.. might have to do it a few times.. not sure if it helps
Adrienne
Hi, I have a 4ft tank and keep about 40 young male fighters in it in bottles with holes through them to allow through circulation of water and the waste matter to be flushed out. The sterilizer has stopped all algae in the tank.
sharronpaul
I hear loud and clear about the uv steriliser. We found the same with our six foot and cf1200. The only thing I can think of is that there is a small leak in the intake piping, thereby creating a venturi and sucking small bubbles of air in. You might think that if there was a leak in the pipework before the filter, that water would leak out but that would depend on the water head on the pipework. I guess the best way to look for it would be to unplug the filter, close the inlet tap and run a very dry cloth or piece of paper along the tubing, particularly around any joins and around your uv unit (if it's on the intake side), as the o-rings on ours had a slight leak as we had not vaselined them. But my gut says that air is getting in somewhere in the intake pipework...
Adrienne
The uv steriliser is not attached to the cf1200 - is a seperate unit that filters about 400litres per hour. The only thing I can think of where air may be getting in is at the tap on the intake - when I turn it off it drips - obviously the same fault that a few of you have had on c1200 filters of late but when it is on there are no drips. Unless the fact that I only have about 6cm of water above the top of the intake pipe that is in the tank has something to do with it. I mean its not a major at the moment - the tank and filter are not in the house but I would like it running silently like the other externals I have. sharronpaul
Like you, I would think it's a faulty tap. The fact that it drips when it's under pressure from the tank head, but doesn't when the pump is running and sucking water from the intake pipe, seems fairly conclusive. Contact your LFS, the'll order it in from kongs, part # is 10763N, and will be maybe $8 each I'd say. That should shut it up ;-)
Adrienne
Emailed Pet Planet where I got the filter from and they are posting me out some new taps which I think is great. Hopefully when they arrive the problem will be sorted - will let you know. Thanks for everyones input, its great to be able to ask on this forum instead of battling alone.
