farmchick
http://www2.snapfish.com/slideshow/Albu ... _=87112174 I hope the link works. He (or she) is roughly 25cm and at least 10 years old. Just thought we would share pics of the beastie that Ryan helped get the big tank sorted for. caserole
Cool loach, you don't see them that big much any more. Shame you don't have a pair to try and breed them as they take so long to get BIG.
Afrikan
Very nice What a big fat sausage   Aren't they beauties.. I have noticed tho that when Clown Loaches get really big they lose their intense colour..
farmchick
How can you tell the difference between males and females? We just refer to him as 'he' all the time There is another one in there about 12cm.
Afrikan
Here is a great link http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/breeding/Berg_Clown_Loaches.html Has a small part of breeding and possible sexual difference.

farmchick
thanks African. from reading that I think the bigger one is a girl and the smaller one, a boy. Anyone out there got a really big boy?
whetu
Very nice What a big fat sausage   Aren't they beauties.. I have noticed tho that when Clown Loaches get really big they lose their intense colour.. Yeah that's interesting isn't it? When they're little they only go that colour when they're stressed, but when they're big the greyed-out colour seems to 'stick'. Also the pale margins to the black stripe seem to be common with the bigger/older clowns. I have a personal theory that maybe if you can avoid stressing your loaches when they're little, they might hold their colour better when they get bigger. Unfortunately mine show that greyed-out stressed colour every day - because they're always arguing about who gets to eat the biggest portion at dinner time. They really are little piggies. sabresonic
Hi I've recently become quite obsessed by clown loaches and I reckon I have seen this clown before online, she looks just like a well known clown called Marge. Marge has been well photographed you can see more picutres of her @: http://www.loaches.com/species-index/cl ... cracanthus and even more photos, with her large school @: http://photobucket.com/mediadetail/?med ... geOffset=4 From all the reading I have done it kinda looks like all clown loaches lose the intensity of the black stripe. If kept in good conditions clowns will grow to a good old size, they can reach up to 30cm, and can live around 30 years. The pity is that most people don't know this and keep them in tiny tanks that stunt their growth, or with not enough of their own kind to keep them happy. If my clowns get that size I think I will be posting them all over the internet too... give me 10-15 years and we will see

Cant wait til mine get that big, I've got four around 8cm, want more but 99% of the ones at the LFS would end up a snack in my tank... It was in with a small (15cm 8) ) buddy and now resides in West Auckland. Im sure she would love to have 50 friends but we would need more than the 8.5ft tank she is in at the moment. Great article though
