Platy with balance problems

6 weeks ago we moved our 2yo platy from our large tank (where he was being picked on by our monstrous angels) to a smaller tank with a couple of female platys. Initially, he enjoyed his new home and the female company very much. But for the past couple of weeks he has stopped eating and has been scratching himself on the log, substrate and plants. Although we can't see any external signs of parasites etc. we added some melafix and tonic salt to be on the safe side.

Two days ago he started sulking in the bottom corners of the tank. His body has a slight kink in it and he is rolling over on to his left side a little. Whenever he tries to swim anywhere (which isn't often) he swims for a bit, and then crash lands onto the substrate, or gets caught in a plant.

From what I've read in previous posts, a swim bladder problem seems to be the likely candidate. Thisavo we managed to feed him some small pieces of pea in the hopes that this would help.

Is there anything else we could/should do? Is it worth dosing the tank with Furan-2? Should a 2 year old platy be fit and healthy, or is he reaching retirement age?? :(
