SpidersWeb
Wasn't there yesterday, appeared overnight. Any ideas? Do I need to do something? Its bigger than it looks in the photo, and is visible on both sides. Hangs underneath him/her.
Caryl
Is it near the anus? Could it be a blockage? Fish are prone to tumours, hope this isn't one
SpidersWeb
Yeah its near the anus. I just had the thought that he might just be crazily constipated. Will let you know if it disappears. We only got him yesterday, and my photo from yesterday shows there was no lump, so dont think its a tumor, oscars seem to get them tho, there sure is some uglies out there. One of the adults at LFS (an unwanted fish from customer) has a tumor on its lip, they called him 'Pimp', cracks me up. Apparently you can surgically remove them though. sharn
cute little lutino ya got there! my bet is if its popped up just overnight its probably a blockage, most people feed oscars crappy diets cause 'theyre aggressive and eat fish so thats what we'll feed them'. chuck in some epsom salts at 1tbsp per 20L if you dont have plecs/sensitive fish in the tank (1tbsp per 40L if you do)and try feed him some peas. id hold off feeding him at present until the lump subsides, if its a blockage you dont wana make it worse if its not constipation its possible something has ruptured inside causing that bump. sounds like that tumour on the O at the LFS would be a callous from digging? SpidersWeb
Thanks heaps for the good wishes Fish turned out to be fine  was just constipated, it was a big lump though! They weren't pre-loved fish, they were imported. They're Bloodred Oscars (we bought both as soon as we saw them). I'll put up some photos soon, they're amazingly coloured. We now have 7 oscars
SpidersWeb
Well time will tell, at the moment they're using a 650L and a 200L tank, but once we get it fixed some will be using the 450L instead of the 200. Something like a 6'x3' would be awesome when they're adults though. All depends on how they go when they mature, might need a 2 tank setup anyway to seperate those who dont like each other. sharn
bloodred is a fancy name for a red lutino (red albino, albino, white tiger, pumpkin and so on are other fancy names for them too). your one looks like he will be a stunner as he grows up, i love the contrast of the super bright orange/red with the crisp whites
