philosophy king
any ideas? it's just started doing this. and the other one seems fine. note, while its shaking/jerking, the other angel(simular size, maybe slightly bigger) are constantly doing this "kissing" or small biting action to the shaker's mouth. why is this? can some one please explain? thanks! GZ_Loach
angels get agressive when spawning, they may make thumping noises (like mine), shake their bodies, bite, chase and appear to ram each other. its usually a good idea to separate the pairs that form. GZ_Loach
note, look for eggs on veritcal surfaces i.e intake pipe on an external filter, long leaves and the heater.

jim r
chances are they will eat them within a couple of days unless you remove either eggs or fish.
SpidersWeb
Shaking / Lip-Locking etc are strength tests, normally used prior to spawning. They will lay eggs on a surface like a plant leaf, or the side of the tank. They will look after the eggs and raise the babies themselves. Some angelfish make the mistake of eating them the first time around though, and some are better parents than others. They're certainly not sick. alanmin4304
How would you feel if you got sent to the vet every time you fell deeply in love? Good luck with the babies.
evilknieval69
What angle are these angles??? dont ya mean angels?
Luke*
No one's asked how big these angles are. They may be jerking and not straight because the compass or ruler is not held steady. They may be too young too.
philosophy king
1. Angel fish not Angle. 2. So, i can comfortably conclude the behaviour is due to post spawning reactions? 3.however, i did a little search on google, what i heard was either due to 1.PH shock, or 2. somekind of illness? what do you guys think? me love fishy
If you are worried about your pH you can test it, if you don't have a tester kit take it to a pet shop and they can test it for you. Keep an eye on your other fish in the tank (if you have any) see if they are behaving strangely. If your water is fine and other fish are okay then it might just be because they are spawning I've seen my angels do that when they are spawning though. alanmin4304
I used to breed thousands of angels and I would think it is either looking for a mate or is strengthening bonds with a mate. It is part of the mating or mate forming ritual they go through. Many cychlids do this. It can also be a threatening gesture if it thinks another fish is coming too close to the area it has claimed as territory (often for breeding). pH shock causes fish to shimmie which is similar but realy quite different. Sounds Irish but is only obvious when you have seen both behaviours.
Foxglove
I saw my angels doing the shaking and lip-locking thing last year, and now they're just past their second batch of fry. So I say it is likely to be mating/spawning rituals. Sadly my angels are in a slightly overstocked community tank, in a main thoroughfare! Maybe in a few months I'll sort them into their own place so they can have a crack at raising the fry beyond wriggler stage. They get stressed and the mum ate the fallen wrigglers, instead of spitting them back onto the leaf! Bad mommy!
evilknieval69
My angels do the exact same thing before they spawn
