Aaron-Betta
I have 3 reasonable sized BN's and I was wondering how you tell the differences between the sexes?
SpidersWeb
Males grow long bristles on their face (hence the name bristlenose), females dont (although they may get a few stumpy bits).
Caryl
Very simple. The males have long bristles around the mouth and up the middle of their head. The females have short bristles around the mouth.

Aaron-Betta
without racing home and looking, I think I have 3 males, that would be the answer why they are very territorial i guess. What rotten luck, now I will have to hunt down some females. At what age would they be ready to breed? There are 2 around 7-8cm and the third is about 10-12 cm
Caryl
I never took any notice of how old mine were when they started to breed. They can be odd in that they may not breed for years then suddenly start to do so non stop until they stop again as suddenly, and mysteriously, as they began. They are not too territorial and you will not have a problem with several males in one tank. Of course, if you're wanting to breed them you will need females
SpidersWeb
...and the girls only go to the most dominant male who looks after the eggs, the females will wait until he is free then go visit his cave.
