Theres always something going on when you have 13 tanks in your house!....

Last night in our display tank which has Discus, gouramis, neons, kribs, pleco, a rainbow fish, black widows, penguin tetras, zebra danios, clown loaches and a red tailed shark in it... (breathe) had an unfortunate event... the rainbow fish just decided to loose all boyancy and swim upsidedown :( still alive and breathing but upside down??? This morning my beloved male Krib was doing it too!! and my young female krib was looking like she was heading for that trend also :( they all went straight to quarantine while we figure out whats up!!

Our thoughts are that we are feeding our Discus (not that we can help who gets what food in this tank) Colour bits and have only been for a week... all the fish love it... is the new dry food they are getting too much for their little digestive systems??? are they getting bloated and infected from it??

I have 0 amonia, soft water and a PH of 6.4, temp is 29 degrees...

I dont want to loose any (more) fish especially my discus...

Any ideas??

it is a very unusual mix indeed

i would expect the discus or clowns to show problems first if it was a water quality issue so you can probably rule that out.

colourbits shouldnt block them up, normally with a blockage its an uneven bump IME, it might show on one side more so than the other. i have heard if fish feed from the surface alot they can get air trapped in their guts (no idea if its true or not), perhaps thats what happened?

it is an unusual mix but up until now everyone has been perfectly happy with a temp of 28-29 degrees and PH of 6.4 to 6.6... there is one of those black plastic air tube thingees in there... and all their food sinks somewhat so noone really eats from the surface... could have been their time i guess?? but unusual to have 2 do the same thing... ill just have to keep an eye on them
