buster
Hi there fellow fishy people. Hello from Rotorua. I've managed to raise about 500 goldfish fry from last year but only about 1% have changed gold. All parents were bright orange comets. Could you guys with alot more experience let me know what I should be doing to prompt their colour change if anything. Some are inside in tanks others are outside in a couple of ponds. Alan
I hear that Bunnings stock a good line of spray paint Buster, by the way, welcome to the forum, enjoy. Seriously though, the young ones change with age, and if they haven't changed when a reasonable size the wont, they have reverted to their natural colour. If you were swimming in a lake surrounded by herons, what colour would you want to be, a bright gaudy red and white, or a plain ol' bronze. I know my choice. Give them time. IOU1
  Paint is an alternative   You must realise too that some might remain there bronze colour, these are just the 'ugly ducklings' I suppose. I don't think this helps you at all but hopefully in time, like Alan said, the majority will change colour
fishboi
they change color with age if at all. shallow water in a sunny spot helps with the transaction.
alanmin4304
One of the characteristics a breeder will look for when selecting fish to breed is the time taken to colour up.

fishboi
So like what's the likely timeframe before they typically colour up? 6 Months? a Year? depends on the strain quality ur breeding from some only takes couple of months and some will take well over a year then some will never change
