obie trice
hi all, i have a big discus which has happily been living with angels, and 4 younger discus, plus an eel and a big syno and a few other catfish. due to personal reasons i have to dramatically reduce how many fish i have and only want to keep the big discus, the eel and the syno. will the discus be ok by himself seeing he has been with other fish for nearly 2 years? cheers
Alan
My guess is that it will be absolutely heart-broken and stop eating get skinnier and pine away and die. So sad Alan
obie trice
thanks for that. i thought as much. would it be ok if i kept 1 friend for him?
sharn
i think the friend would become a punching bag he doesnt have a girlfriend by any chance does he? if he does then you can keep his partner with him. discus couples do fight but much less than ones that arent paired up. having only 2-4 discus which arent paired up will create an unhappy tank IME because the top fish will make everyones lives misery. discus are schooling fish and he will probably feel quite lost on his own. you can try it out and see how he goes, he might be fine but he decide to stop eating, start hiding etc.

Luke*
I keep a bunch of discus together at any one time (except for pairs, then they have lots of friends.. their kids ). One discus is always the bottom of the pecking order though.
