RnB
Steve, i virtually gave that yellow tang to you the manderin getting a good price as well People are SO PRICE sensitive as they have no real alternatives.... a slight discount gets so much response. its good news for anyone who is thinking of ripping down a tank.... KP
Oh I must be getting out of date with Aucklands prices  I thought they were round the $120 mark
reef
no bargain on the mandarin. should advise retailers to put all the pricing up. i am sure they are about $80 at Jansens http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pets-animals/Fish/Fish/auction-77975156.htm pointless thread. I thought they were round the $120 mark Its been a long time since yellow tangs where $120. That is inflation for you

Jansens was slightly bigger, but HFF had both the picturatus (spotted) and the splendidus (striped). Very nearly bought the splendidus BTW Reef. I got that piece for the streams that I was missing. Cheers anyway Skippy

reef
I got yellow tang from hff albany for $85.00, do you mean $185?. its been a long time since they have been $85. about the same time house prices where $100k
petplanet
I think you are almost always better off getting fish that have been in other peoples tanks for a long time. Especially if it is anything hard to feed. The tangs in the shops almost always tend to be skinny.
cookie extreme
its been a long time since they have been $85 thats how much they were! about 2 - 3 months ago! i was quite surprised too.
Ira
It was only a year or two ago I saw a website in the US selling yellow tangs for $2US each....
lduncan
Probably because they come from American waters ;-) The freight cost to get a single yellow tang to New Zealand is more than that.
Pies
I've purchased a bit of stuff from the USA this year, and freight is expensive, I can only imagine that live stock transport would be worse.
lduncan
 expensive is an understatement. I've been looking at various carriers for 3 day service from the States in the last few weeks. $150/kg for a 1kg parcel dropping to $50/kg for parcels around 10kg seems the norm! RnB
pointless thread. seems a popular thread tho.... so guys are you trying to say that fish that have been in a persons tank for a year should sell at a premium to a recent import shop fish? jetskisteve
depends
Krama
it all depends on the old supply and demand.. if it was different, better, healthier, or just there and I want it, and I want it now, then I would pay more than I would normally would. Especially fish, which I hear are very difficult to frag........
