wasp
I would like... Mushrooms Zoanthids Leather Coral(s) Brain Coral(s) Hammer Coral(s) Thanks All those corals will probably work, especially the mushrooms. Some leathers may do better with more light, and also there are different types of brain coral, some of which will be less suited. Before you buy, this site may help http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/categ.cfm?pcatid=597 I am also wanting to have 2 perc clowns and a cleaner shrimp eventualy which im pretty sure will all be sweet, but what do you think about a firefish aswell??? The percs & the shrimp will coexist fine. The firefish is also suited to a tank like yours, however, if the clowns get territorial, they will bite the firefish every time it goes in their territory, and in a tank that size there may not be much room left for it. Might work, might not. Personally i think you should stay with the tank you have rather than go smaller, but instead upgrade the skimmer. Not that the skimmer was not a good deal, at $30.00 I guess it's better than a kick in the head.
venustus
Just a tip: Watch your water temp. closely. When the set up is closed like that, heat from the lighting can gradually build. One day everything is fine, the next your fish are cooking Sadly, this is from experience! Now I leave the lid open, which in turn was bad for my firefish who did a swan dive out of the tank when chased by my clown fish The smaller the set up, the quicker it can happen! evilknieval69
Whoa Evil the elite five star club :bounce: , I'll be there soon!  twas' a loooong journey....  All this skimmer business just REALY confuses me... What do you think would happen if i ran the 60L tank without a skimmer and just did water changes every week? I am SERIOUSLY thinking about moving over to the smaller tank now........ I dont have the $$$$$ to upgrade the skimmer right now, so it is not an option.... !!!!!!!!!
evilknieval69
Oh and thanks for all that other info about compatability etc wasp.
Rockerpeller
so hows the tank coming now evil? i'm keen to see your tank fully up and running. its helping me sort my tank out as well.
Zev
I notice on the link that Wasp posted for compatibility, that they suggest adding trace elements/iodine - is this just a sales pitch, or is it necessary for the longterm health of the mushys and zoos? If necessary, what would be the best supliment for a small tank like evils?
wasp
Iodine is one of those additives that people either swear by, or swear at. I've tried it, hard to say if it really does anything. Couple of things I have seen dosing it for recomended by reefer I respect, a cleaner shrimp that is having trouble moulting, and to ease the way if introducing acros that are not in the best shape to the tank. evilknieval69
Ok, i have another idea!! Is it possible to keep a tank with no fish, only corals?? I am still realy thinking of moving over to the 30L setup, and just having corals, no fish, but possibly 1 fish in the future?? Is this possible or do the corals need the fish waste etc in the tank?? Thanks
reef
would be ideal to have no fish as you wont have to feed them which adds waste to the water. Much easier to look after the tank with no fish.
evilknieval69
Oh sweet, i shall do that then Ohk so this is the plan. Im going to move all of the LR and the coral sand i have to the 30L tank, then put 30L's of water from the 60L into it. Then just use the 1200LPH powerhead for water movement, the heater and the HOB filter. No skimmer or anything (no room for skimmer pump anyways probably) I will then just put soft corals in there. May put a clown or a firefish or a goby of some sort in there in the future but not for a while... ALSO, Would i be able to keep a pin cushion leather in the tank? I have had a bit of a search on the net about them but havent found much. There is a guy on these forums who is going to frag one and is local to me and i may be able to buy one off him... evilknieval69
OHK, update time!! It has been 2 and a half ish months since i put the live rock into the first tank. The tank now has (thanks to wasp) 2 xenias, 1 colony of zoas, 2 candy cane corals, 1 Pink montipora digitata (not doing to well with only the 15W light  ) and a toadstool leather. I top up with tap water more than i should, but im losing 1.5L's daily... Im picking up a 38 x 38 x 38 cm cube tank on saturday, which this tank will be moved in too. I am using a 150W MH on the cube, Along with a seio m620 i scored cheap, and probably the original skimmer. Heres some pics of the corals that i took 5 mins ago, and then a FTS (make that a CRAP FTS!!!) Leather xenia's Zoanthids And FTS More pics once i upgrade to the cube and get more corals!!! evilknieval69
I put a little bit stronger light on the tank today (went from 15W to 20W  ) and the corals seem to have coloured up more... Heres a pic of the xenia which has gone quite pink as you can see And the zoas Compare them with yesterdays pics above!! What a difference!! Those photos are all very similiar to what they are in real life, same settings and everything as the others so its not just the photos!!! tel
so you went from 15 to 20 watts. doesnt seem alot but its a little over 33% more light. good size water changes may be the next best thing you can do.
