Wok
Hi.. I have just scoffed down a few dozen oysters and have 2 bags full of shells. I was just wondering what affect they would have in a fresh water aquarium if at all it can be used. Help would be much appreciated. Cheers
fishboi
it can be used to harden the water and rise the ph to be more alkaline. do this by crushing it up and put in the filter.
Wok
What would the level of pH be?
fishboi
that really depends on what the ph is to start with and how big the tank is in ratio of amount of crush sells u use but u can raise it to off the cart if u really wanted to[over 8]
alanmin4304
It is basically calcium carbonate and is virtually insoluble. It will react with acid and increase the calcium and therefore hardess in the water. It acts as a buffer because it uses the acid in the water to react but will increase the hardness relative to the acid available.
