Bubbles
I use a L6 for my sump return and it's vibrating/humming quite badly. I've tried putting filter wool under its mounting foot but doesn't seem to make a difference. Thoughts on fixing this are: - Thicker poly under the sump to absorb the vibration - Removing the mounting foot so that the pump is suspended in the water (though am a bit worried that the plumbing may then rattle) Have also noticed that from time to time the pump starts sucking air (sump is a bit small), which cause the vibrations to stop. Any thoughts would be welcome.
Ira
Sounds like maybe you need to replace the impeller.
Bubbles
Sounds like maybe you need to replace the impeller. Possibly. The pump was purchased second hand, but had never been used. Mind you, it was from a very, very dodgy individual!
Caryl
Perhaps he meant it had never been used by him
subflex
I have the same thing with my one and it has a brand new impellor in it. I have my suspended by the plumbing now which seems to have reduced the hum a bit

If this is a common issue with these pumps, can anyone recommend a more quiet pump. Bubs
Ira
They seem to quiet down a little with a little bit of backpressure too. You could always try something like an Iwaki or a Sequence pump. They're only about 4 times as much money for the Iwaki or 3 times for the Sequence. Bubbles
how abouta OR6500 Why? 30W more power consumption for same output. Is it deathly silent? Will I hear my girlfriend complain over the hum of the pump
Ira
You'll need to get something like this if you want to drown her out...

HelifaxNZ
I purchased a brand new one and it made quite a loud hum. We found it was the impellar. They replaced it and now working quietly.
Bubbles
I've wedged a piece of poly under the pump foot, as well as shifting my plumbing a little bit. Completely quite now.
