obie trice Posted September 3, 2006 Report Share Posted September 3, 2006 anyone had a tank crack..... one of mine cracked the other day, at the bottom, 3/4 of the water had leaked out all over the floor (was really fun to clean up) by the time i got home from work and found it... not sure why it cracked, i see it had cracked on the other side when i brought it off trade me about 9 months ago and had been repaired, b4 this it never leaked... anyway there was only 1 fish in it, a sick discus but it was and is still alive, the heater was like half out of water so im surprised that didnt crack, not sure if it still goes or not i havent tested it... I've never had a tank crack but I've heard the slightest uneveness, even a grain of sand, can cause it to break if there's no poly. Caryl Posted September 3, 2006 Report Share Posted September 3, 2006 I have - a stress fracture after an earthquake (and yes the tank was on polystyrene). Totally flooded the 24ft lounge then into dining and kitchen areas. Was just starting up the happ carpet when we got up in the morning and discovered it with about 4cm of water left in the tank. alanmin4304 Posted September 3, 2006 Report Share Posted September 3, 2006 A tank will not break if the base is evenly and properly supported and the glass is in good condition. If the base has been damaged by geing knocked and chips taken out in weakens the glass considerably. Any tanks I have had to repair have had a chip out and that is where the break has started.
