  1. Angels will tend to pick on brains but will not touch some leather corals as they are toxic.
  2. I would not put one in a reef. Maybe a majestic angel as mine seems ok and has not touched anycorals in my sump.
  3. Here some info from the Product i was using a few years ago, Algae and most likely all symbiotic zooxanthellae that live within corals, sponges, anemones, clams etc. have a requirement for Iron along with other micro growth substances. The Iron Plus formulation provides an unchelated form of Iron, since we feel that chelation (binding of the Iron within an organic matrix) may give an unfair advantage to microalgae that is able to metabolize the organic Iron complex. Also, since the iron used is at its highest oxidation state a temporary rise in redox may be observed following its use. The other growth substances are Manganese, Cobalt, Copper and Zinc. The formulation is pH stabilized to maintain the elements in the ionic form and the concentrations of chemicals are proportioned to the concentration of iron in natural seawater. Although trace metals such as Copper are toxic to some invertebrates, this formulation contains only microquantities essential for metabolism at levels far below toxicity. As with most trace additives, their residence time in the water depends upon the biomass using them, the filtration extracting them and the water conditions that may bind them. Therefore, if trace additives are used on a regular basis it is prudent to perform periodic checks for accumulation or deficiency. A low or high limit should be established. For Iron these limits may be 0.01 to 0.05
  4. However iron does seen to brighten some acros, like green, When adding MM, my acros went supa green. due to the iron,
  5. And get algae growing. I have added iron before and it sure did not colour up my acros.
  6. Very nice fish cooke.
  7. What a waste on time. No iron is going to colour up a brown acro.
  8. Would carbon remove iron?
  9. That is pretty easy, if you have ever dosed iron as I have. Too much iron will cause nice algae outbreak. It will also have other effects. Adding iron does improve coral colours to a degree as using MM has highlighted this for me as it is loaded with iron. That is why the caulpera algae goes ballistic. One thing I notice when using zeo, is when I did not do water changes every week my hair algae in my sump went crazy. So maybe the zeolite does release some iron, who knows.
  10. There are many companies selling zeolite for seawater now. Zeolite is a naturaly occuring mineral called Clinoptile, it has a long history in the hobby, Kent Denitrate is also a zeolite. Once you add zeolite the tank goes crystal clear . I beleive that the zeolite will remove nutrients and the zeovit bactaria makes it more effective. Reducing phostphate/Nitrates is not the whole story as i have seen tanks with high phostphates and they still have nice acro colours. Maybe that is why using zeolite is good as it removes other elements/nutrients we cant test for that effect coral colours.
  11. They might last that long however there is a colour shift after about 6 months, you could use the bulbs la little longer I guess.
  12. Due to last months Meeting not happening due to various reasons. It will be the first week in July.

    Flat worms.

Since you tank is small i would have put the fish and corals in a bucket and then treated the tank.
  14. Standard crab that comes with pocs .

    Running 14k bulbs and 12 x 54w blue t5s.
  17. No they are crap. test show that they are no better than a 400w single ended bulb.
  18. The problem with the 400w is that is does not produce much more light than a 250w DE and they suck more power making a 250w more effecient and as bright. Only only thing is that they are slightly cheaper to buy and they keep a better spead of light as they are a bigger bulb. When i redo my lights i will go 250w and just get more of them to give a better spread over the tank.
  19. No problems at all. Just not that nice when they get big.

Could not be happier with the stuff, tank looked great using it, Photos taken also shows that corals looked far more colourful. Could be the iron in the mud. I actually removed it as i had the coral bleeching problem and needed the space. but it is going back soon, or at least some of it as my cataphyllia has recovered when i put the mud in. Some people do have problems growing the algae, and do have to do it a few times. i cant say i had any problem with the algae,. But all the mud tanks i have seen look great and even Hollywoods coral tanks in Albany looked really good when they added the mud. I think using a skimmer also is a good idea otherwise if you go skimless you need a huge sump to hold more algae.
  21. I hate to see what my power cost is but i think it is about $100 month. 4x400w metal halides 16000w 12x 54w t5s 648w 8x54w sump 432 w heaters 2 x 1000w 2000w streams say 5x50w 250w misc pumps, 500w main pump 100w total 5530w
  22. It is getting interesting, I think the iron does have a big part to play.
