  1. I am going to start using tap water; however, our water contains chloramine and chlorine. I have used the tap water before but always after sitting in a bucket for 24 hours and then adding "Start Right" to remove chlorine and chloramine. It is my understanding that just letting water sit does not remove the chloramine, am I right? So I always add the start right. I only have 2 buckets so I thought I would refill my 10L bottles. Will just leaving the cap off be sufficient (as opposed to an open bucket)? Would anybody know how long these chlorine/chloramine removers take to work? The bottle states "makes water safe for fish immediately". All help would...as always...be appreciated I know I have to let the water come to at least room temp 8)
  2. My nitrites are finally 0 I have also noticed that since the nitrites have been 0 the sailfin molly opens his dorsal fin more often. If you know what I mean :-?
  3. THANK YOU I placed the fish inside insulated bags & used bubble wrap...they arrived home safely Apparently Monday is not a good day to buy fish, not many! Didn't get to the big pet store in Halifax, so just a couple of small ones on the way home. But I did manage to get: dalmation platy, mickey mouse platy, (red platy who apparently disappeared today ), 2 white cloud minnows. So far, except the red one, they seem to be doing well. Time will tell. Thanks again for all the help Oh, Caryl....trunk (boot)...I would not have guessed that one
  4. Very nice pics! Cool lookin fishies 8) You'd almost think they were posing for you
  5. THANKKKKKKKKKKKK YOU This is as close to a vacation that I'll get this year so I am looking forward to it 8) Would a small insulated...sort of an oversize lunch bag kinda thing do? I was thinking I could put some bubble wrap in to protect the fish...what do you think?  Darn...I still don't have a quarantine tank. I was going to get one next week...this trip was just decided on. If I were to get just a small tank, could I put water in from my established tank...would that work?
  6. This is a long weekend...YIPPEE...and I'm going to my sister's tomorrow (Friday) after work. I'm going to check out some pet stores on my way home Monday. "IF" I wanted to get any fish, how could I take them home safely. I know somebody told me before...but I can't find it  Depending if I can get them and where...probably anywhere from 2-4 hour drive home. Any and all suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.
  7. YIPPEE Tanksman! Thank you...I did a 10% change last night...and the night before because nitrites were still high. Tested tonight...down to .3 I was trying to think of what I could be doing wrong that I couldn't get the nitrites down...I think I was changing too large a volume of water   in my weekly water changes. After all the things the folks taught me here....I guess I forgot how to calculate    Thanks again!

  9. Holy cow...the size of those fishies they are AWESOME! Absolutely gorgeous
  10. Thank you...again That's what I shall do then
  11. Thanks Tanksman The filter is the one that came with the tank. Aqua Tech 20/40 which somebody here...shoot, sorry don't remember who   said that should be fine. So...with that in mind...do you suggest the 10% or 20% tonight since I did the 20% last night? I don't want to take out too much or my tank will never cycle :-? And if I go with the 10%...should I do it each night till nitrites go down?'
  12. Congratulations!!! Those with more experience will recommend what kind of fish. But from what I understand Jack Dempseys are an aggressive fish...I don't think guppies can go with them. I'd love to have cardinal tetras, that is if my neons should go...ah...well you know  but I haven't seen them here.
  13. 110L: Ammonia 0 Nitrites - last night I checked and they were 1.6...did 20% water change, no vacuuming just syphoned out the water...and added cycle as was recommended in booklet that came with test kit. Checked tonight...nitrites down to .8...should I change any water tonight???

    hey up,mukas

Hi Tim! Welcome to the best fishie site. Loads of information and really nice people, to say the least. I'm from Cape Breton...hence...Caper. We weren't always known as capers...and by the way...we are not fish Take care!
  15. Welcome Candy! You sure do have a lot of fish...can't wait to see your pics. Take care and have fun!
  16. Hi there! Welcome to the site. I see you already have the untreatable, incurable disease...MTS   Gee...people look at me kinda funny when I tell them...I'm watching TV then all of a sudden I'm staring at the fish! So...I am not ALONE When I first got my tank, my cat was scared of the fish...but then...he is scared of flies, so he probably thought that's what they were. But in time, he took an interest...but hardly bothers anymore...I think it was once he realized he just couldn't get them no matter how many times he "pawed" the tank  Have fun here...great site! Dolorosa
  17. Oh, so it is considered a three spot then He sure is a pretty fish. So does that mean a 2 spot, one is the eye as well?
  18. Sorry about your fishies dying. But if there is one thing I've learned, fish will die and sometimes for no apparent reason (at least to us!). But with that said, it doesn't make it any easier
  19. Wow...that is one tall tank! I can't wait to see it all set up. Wouldn't one of those magnetic algae scrappers be good for cleaning a tank such as yours? I haven't tried them yet but have heard they are good...anybody try them or use them? Why is a tall tank so suitable for angels?
  20. Hi Gretal! There is a certain amount of evaporation that takes place. You don't see an water around the outside of you tank do you that would indicate a possible leak? So unless, it is gone done an excessive amount...those with more knowledge can correct me...but I wouldn't worry.
  21. I was wondering the same thing Jude...could it be a cross between bananas and coffee...
  22. So true Caryl...lol...so true! Vapo...nice tank...the fish are invisible..aren't they...jk...looks really nice! Is the white with the 3 spots are gourami? Very pretty! Oh...just looked again..2 spots  ...the other is his eye! But, Shannon, you have your own tank don't you?
  23. Oh Snowman...I am so sorry about you guppies. All the times you helped me and nothing I can do I hope you find out what's causing this. Take care!
  24. Shannon...sorry about your fishie! I read on the net that their spine can go "funny" if it is neon tetra disease. A couple of days ago I noticed that one of my tetras...going up from the "belly" & to the top...white...almost like a triangle going through his blue stripe. Did yours go like that? Tried to get a picture...but the only time he came close enough...he was on the wrong side! Hello!
