Anyone out there growing b/shrimp to adults ? There is some good info on the web showing different methods . Sounds to me to be an ideal live food for larger fish .

8/10 is better than none . I have around 20 Similis Cory eggs in a breeding trap in my tank . Thay should hatch tonight . You can see the embrio developing inside the eggs .You will need to keep an eye on eggs going white (infertile) and remove them . If your cory eggs are fertile it will mean your albino cory is an albino peppered cory . I find the best way to catch a B/nose is to put a piece of courgette in the tank close to the glass and when blissfully feeding net them out . Works every time for me

Is your albino a peppered cory ? Most albino corys are bronze corys .I dont think a bronze X pepper is possible . Sounds like your setup is fine would look at increasing temp to 25C I would also move the other fish out of the tank esp B/nose mine love cory eggs .

My Corydoras Similis have been doing the wild thing in my community tank . There is around 30 eggs placed just under the water surface . most are on the glass . Is it possible to remove eggs from the glass ? My plan was to remove the eggs and put them in a 5 l container suspended in the same tank . Will put some small hole near the top to allow for water to move in and out .

That sounds like one hell of a fishroom . I am planning one at the moment will start putting it together in August . No were near the size your building . Im looking at a total volume of 1800 l made up of 5 tanks . The idea i am thinking about with regards to filtration is to have the tanks draining into some type of gutter with segmented wiers which will run under the stand holding he tanks . The gutter will be the filter containing a range of filter materials . The gutter will run into a 200 l holding barrel (sump)and get pumped back to the tanks from there . The idea is to have 2 holding barrels connected to the pump one in use and one for water changes . So when it comes to water changes it is just a matter of opening the new barrel and dumping the other . Has anyone tryed a system like this . The principle is similar to what you find in those new tanks were the filter is in the light hood . Buy the way what kind of fish are keeping to need so many tanks

I brought a so called pair a few weeks ago . I am sure i have two males . The more dominate male shows more colour than the submissive male which could be mistaken for a female . From what i have seen with Apistos the females are alot plainer in colour and tend to have a yellow hue to them . I have not seen a photo of Steel blue female . It seems the breeders are able to manipulate the spawns with temp/water conditions to produce mainly males . There is the chance that because these are a man made variety that the females maybe more colourfull and hard to till apart . I would be interested to see a photo of your female .

From what i understand co2 will not displace o2 in your water . To have lush growth in a planted tank you need in basic terms Light + Balanced Nutrients + CO2 . If one or another is in short supply you do not get maximum growth.

I have the same problem in my 450l tank . I am putting the blame on my pair of B r/nose ( pooing machines) . Because thay eat alot of bog wood there poo seems to fall apart and create particles in the water . I also find because i am running a tricke filter i am only taking water from the surface and particles seem to get suspended in the water colum . Maybe i need to increase my in flow ?

Some very good info on those sites . Thanks for that .

Im going to start using pmdd drops . The info i have read on the net talk about adding enough to keep Fe at 0.1ppm . Has anyone used a conductivity meter to help detect the fert levels in there tank and dose to keep at that level .

Heres the deal with regards to the trace element mix . 100 grams Trace element 150 grams K2so4 70 grams kno3 360 grams mgso4 This is enough to mix 3.3liters of stock solution and @ 1 ml / 10 l .Thats enough to treat 33000 l . Do check out all the info on the web regarding pmdd before dosing . This deal is all care no responsibility. The preferred payment would be a trade . Fert for plants . I will send you the fert you send me some plants . save mucking around sending money . Send me a Pm if interested .

I just got some trace element mix from Stokers hydroponics . Thay made it up as to the pmdd recipe . Thay had to make up 2 kgs to get the right % . Im going to keep 1 kg the rest is up for grabs . Cost me $2.50 / 100 grams . I would rather trade fert for plants ( suitable for discus tank). I can also send the Macros that you will need to make up the pmdd recipe . The macros are agricultural grade not lab grade .
-
not as bad as you think the water is more of an amber colour . Dont forget discus come from black water rivers loaded with humic acids .Your fish will love you for it .

I have the same dilemma. My bore water is pH 7.8 gh 180 ppm kh 80ppm . Up till know i have been using a mixture of rain and bore water to get the levels were i want them . My rain water comes from an irrigation dam were the water is sand filtered and UV treated . I pump it into a 220l barrel were i filter it through a 1 micron filter, as the water it quite cloudy . So far so good my discus are doing well . I also have peat in the sump of my wet/dry filter . The options you have with your bore water is an RO unit or peat filter (peat bomb) . I have been playing around with peat with my bore water and it does bring down ph and hardness . RO will work .These units arnt the cheepist and the is the question as to how long the membrane will last filtering hard water . Food for thought .

Warren what kind of macros do you use . Agricultural grade or Lab grade ?

I had Stockers hydroponics make me up the trace element mix as to the PMDD recipe. To make it to the required % of elements thay had to make up around 1.5kgs . This will last me a life time . If any one is interested in buying some (at cost) I could make up some 500 gram packs including mgso4 + kno3 . Not sure on cost yet would need to include post .

Hi Diver John . Check post from warren 15/dec 2005 in tech forum . there is advise there about using pumice . Im going to give it a go in my wet/dry filter . should make excellent filter media due its large surface area .

Sounds like a better situation in oz with regards to finding fish . Still no luck here . I thought Tilapia maybe the problem as well . I sent an email to MAF to ask why front s are not on the allowable list , the reply was I have filled out the forms, it will be interesting to see what develops
-
I realize there is yonks , but how do thay decide whats in and whats out .
-
thanks for the replys sounds like there are some fish around and about . Im hope someone is breeding them . Some imported stock would be nice . Q . How did MAF come up with its allowable list and why arnt Fronts on it . I cant imagine Fronts naturalizing to NZ conditions .
