  1. tks B, I'll try it, makes sense to me too, worth a go anyway
  2. I have a rather large tank that has a broken base sheet, the thickness is 12mm x 1070x600, do I need to use the same thickness of glass if I am to patch it, I thought that maybe I could use 6mm to fit inside the tank and seal, and another 6mm on the outside, basically glued all over , what's the opinions,, if I have a reasonably flat and stable base to put the tank on ( thinking of using my 3/4 inch flat steel table that I used to use for panel beating, and use a fairly thin sheet of polly
  3. Hi is not shy, just cunning, waiting for someone to get within easy distance to dispose of
  4. Just a little note to AGOH, this poor person is asking for help and has got some/lots of very very good advice, this situation appears to be stabilising and in all probability will be corrected, but criticism at this stage surely will not help. !!!! The person concerned asked for help, got it, is doing all that they can to rectify the situation and needs to be praised for their prompt action, sit back and wait for the results of all the excellent work from all sides. WELL DONE EVERYONE INVOLVED, I AM IMPRESSED, AND FOR ALL THE PEOPLE WHO GAVE ADVICE - GREAT BEST RESPONSES I HAVE SEEN ON THE SITE FOR QUITE SOME TIME , and good luck with your Cichlids (can't believe I got so upset for this poor person who obviously cares a lot for their fish)
  5. Sure will, but so will any food if it is not eaten and left in the tank, I find that some of the cichlid tablets that I have used are probably the worst for fouling water, and peas if not shelled - the shells end up in the filter, comonsense feeding allows most feed to be used
  6. I have never lost fish from what I have fed them, I have huge goldfish that eat virtually anything and with them are a silver dollar, a silver shark, and a red pleco, between them most stuff does not even get a chance to hit the bottom, the silver shark was a real cot case and would only eat mosquito larvae but now it eats trout crumble, goldfish flake, dog roll, anything really, it has grown probably 50% and now resembles a small trout, feed anything you like but if they do not like it take it out before it goes off, they are not stupid, they do not seem to eat stuff that will hurt them. I find that all of my fish eat the cheap trout crumble that is normally sold for about $5.95 a kilo, but the down side is that it seems to be high in fat and you will find that sponge filters will become qite clogged and hard to really get clean, the fish thrive on it tho
  7. I have a tank that sounds similar to yours at present, periocally I take rocks or pieces of wood out and put them in with a Pleco, two days later they are pristine and I put them back. I have found that the stringy type green algae although it looks not so good is great for fish health, I am going to buy some snails too though as the tank was very clean when I had them and before the Jewels ate them
  8. I have heaps of Jewels for you to try, from 4/5 inches down to 2/3", great size tank for them I have heaps in two foot tanks but they are dynamite on little fish, also need lots of hidey holes or large rocks or wood to call home, easiest way to upset a Jewel is to remove one of the the rocks or pieces of wood, or in fact to put in a new bit. they go ape for a couple of days till they work out who owns what again. Beautiful fish but quite aggressive. p.s. do not get a pair or you could end up with lots of fish, they are very easy to breed
  9. Hi, Wok, Graeme here, I have Kribensis in my big tank and they get on with everyone except guppies, swords and platties, all of those mentioned are just not fast enough. Mine are in with very large Pleco, large tinfoil, catfish, clown loaches, they were also ok with Silver Shark and Silver dollar. They tousled with the Jewels though, don't really know who won there, I removed the Jewels before they caused too much trouble, cheers, p.s. the plant and the guppies are doing great tks
  10. never new how to spell that, thankyou very much for your reply, couln't believe no one knew him, sorry to hear of his passing. I still have one of his tanks, never been touched since the 60's still perfect, tks Graeme
  11. must be someone who knows him , I'm in my mid fifties and I guess by now he would be 80 at least
  12. CAN ANYONE IN THE WELLINGTON AREA, advise me whether this old chap is still around?? I used to work for him part time in the 70,s, he would be quite an age if still about the place, was very well known in the tropical fish world and used to import tropicals, breed discus and angels, and make tanks of all sizes (very good ones), tks Graeme
  13. most of the acid cure silicones will continue to cure in water, in fact on buildings that I used the stuff on, if you want a really fast cure you can spray a fine spray of water on it and it will go off really fast, but ofcourse you cannot beat a slow cure, silaflex from memory is a really good product as one person mentioned, and fosroc also very good quality, but the chemist of any product will advise you or go on the web and find out that way, years ago I worked part time for Hori Parker in Wellington, some may know him, he made great tanks and always used the acid cure silicone, he would be very old now, anyone know anything about him at all, tks Graeme
  14. tks for that, yep had mountain minnows too, but the comets saw to them, just a wee bit small, discus on the other hand are not aggressive at all are they
  15. thanks pal, your blood needs bottling, get from the chemist or a pet shop ????
  16. not your common bright green, this is dark blue green in colour and extremely fast growng, grown on surfaces and completely envelopes what it is growing on, Wok told me a remedy but being a thicko I forgot to write it down, any advise out there on remedies ??????? 2ft tank with large Jewels in it. Jewels are very happy in it I might add, couldn't care less about algae, just somewhere else to hide and fight etc
  17. anyone else using it to feed fish, my jewels nearly jump out of the tank to eat it, the comets love it, seems to me most of the fish will eat it, downside, dirty and fouls water and filters, but fed sparingly is a great tonic food, not sure on the chemicals in it but as wok will testify my fish seem to be pretty healthy

    Grumpy

To all people who wonder where my add for Jewels went !, lost the plot and got Cees to remove ! Anyone still interested in these beautiful little blighters please still get in touch, I have decided that I will SWAP THESE FISH ONLY - AT THE RATE OF 1 OR 2 PER PERSON - NO SALES, NO MORE THAN 1 OR 2, NO FREIGHTING, BRING YOUR OWN BAGS OR BOX, I am not normally this grumpy and love fish and fishy things, perhaps a stalk or base of your favourite plant or a piece of floating or whatever. Be prepared to talk about mixing cold and tropical fish together, Peugeots, Targa, plants, or maybe even have a cold one together. Ex Army, (probably why I am grumpy), mad keen on Peugeots, cya at my place or waffle on the net, Graeme
