  1. New Development.

Flounder (as I now call her) seems to be improving again. She is using her her head more to swim around but her right side still seems to be paralised. She hangs around the edges of the group agian and seems to be eating a little again. looks like there might still be some hope after all. :)

  2. One of my Tiger Barbs has suddenly started to swim a little bit funny. She flounders for a while then swims in circles to the left then flounders again while twitching her tail to the left. A dark spot has appeared about two mm behind her right eye below the skin surface. She also seems a little pale although her stripes are very dark.

Could this be some sort of stroke? has anyone got any other ideas?

I will put her in a breeding nursery to seperate her from the others as my other tank has baby barbs in it.

  3. I have just succeded in breeding my first Tiger Barbs. I had the parents seperated in my breeding tank which I had put a layer of marbles in the bottem. They spawned in the morning (about 4 weeks ago)and I took the parents out again later that day. The eggs changed colour over the next couple of day but after a week I hadn't seen any movement whatsoever. I gave up and turned the tank off. When my wife was cleaning the tank last week I noticed that there was something moving!!!! FRY! Unfortunately she had already thrown out two buckets of water. I now have about 15-20 healthy fry that are starting to grow very quickly. I think the only reason any suvived during those first few weeks was because I had thown in a little sprinkle of fry food that might have encouraged some infusoria growth.

    Sorry about the long rant.

  4. I think what the other member was meaning is whether to actually make contact with the comparisson chart or not, if there is a drop of water in between the colour gets darker than if you hold it away from it.

  5. Another member asked in a different arena whether the test tubes have to be held against the white surface of the card or in front of it. There is normally a difference in the colour you see (darker when in contact) this could have an influence on your actions if you don't know. I thought I would put it into the mix and see what others think.

  6. I just tested my water tonight and that very same notion actually came across my mind as well. Wonder what others would think of this. might try posting it on another section to get it into the general arena.

If you dont have any driftwood you could try JBL Novo Pleco tabs, that is what I am using untill I can find some. B/N need fibre which they get from driftwood and these tabs have it as well.I also feed them a piece of Zuchini or cucumber which I weigh down with a piece of lead.

Hope this helps to keep the survivor alive, good luck.

  7. I have had my tiger barbs for about a month now and at first the biggest stated getting a greenish glitter on the black stripes. I have done a water change and waited to see what would happen.

Now the other four are starting to get the same.

    Any ideas? :-?

They do not seem to be distressed or sick in any other way.

  8. When I first started 3 months ago I had problems with ammonia due to the cycling process, I lost five neons in as many days. They all died within 24 hrs of first showing simptoms.

But more information would be needed to make a better diagnosis. Post your test results, details of how often you do water cahnges and how much, and anything else you can think of. even if you think it might not have anything to do with the problem.

Maybe then someone can be of more help.

    Happy Fishwatching

  9. Hi, My name is DutchKiwiCowboy or DKC for short. I am originally from Holland, live in NZ and I love anything to do with the old Wild West Frontier.

I have had an aquarium for the past 10 weeks or so and after some initiall startup problems my tank is becoming a fairly vibrant community tank.
