    Mystery critters

    they are definately dragon fly larvae they are predatory machines and will kill surprisingly large fry/fish
  2. are blue gouramis related to the 3-spot, because they are well known for having the odd aggressive specimen
  3. are kribs quite rare over there? everyone seems to have a couple over here - and they breed energetically and continuously

    using air pumps

    02 content of water is far more dependent on surface water movement than the actual presence of air bubbles from an air stone air pumps are less and less important as more and more people have internal and external power filters that move the water surface with their returns.
  5. clown loaches and khuli loaches seem to be the best snail chompers
  6. thnx peeps just checking mine weren't a daft variety of clown
  7. shifting white spot from clows is hard, but as already mentioned - half dose treatment (at most) and turn up the temp (88-90) and added aeration (as o2 levels drop as temp rises)
  8. or just find a stream and tie it down - so long as you remember where you put it you should be ok
  9. For some reason after 6 months of reliably taking sinking tablets, and cucmber etc, my clowns have taken a fancy to floating daphnia. the daphnia is the frozen "live" food type As soon as it hits the water all of them are up there taking it off the surface. they are not starving, but they are so boisterous and eager they scare the quieter fish away anyone else have this problem?
  10. I have a juwel tank which comes with a T8 lighting unit I hear you can replace this with the acadia T5 units anyone done so and f so is there much difference? are there many T5 light tube types?
  11. dont feel so bad - in the days of airpumps and tubing - everyone syphoned off half their tank at one time or another dry your desk out asap though - if it softens your tank will fall through

    'Sup

    unless it is a tank with a floating base where the rim takes the pressure and disperses it evenly to the glass base make sure the polystyrene doesnt get pushed under the tank rim with those tanks or it will actually do you tank harm rather than good
  13. you got any daylight in that room - or is it all walls? some folk like a window worksurface to stimulate breeding, or grown infusoria/green water etc. you using a central large filter - or each tank filtered seperately?
  14. arrowanas were bad news here in th UK not long ago. everyone was selling them, at about 3" in length they looked really cool, and only cost about £10 little did most folk realise that they can grow to over 1 metre in length and can jump out of the water to a height of over 1 metre to catch and eat small birds etc. i found it hard to belive until I went to chester zoo and saw them in their glory - truely huge mysterious beautiful fish, but no tank can hold them at home for ever - they are huge!
