Very large geckos are not likely to be established genetically in the very few generations that we have had them in New Zealand but more than likely caused by too much of the wrong food. Dark yellow to orange hatchlings that revert to normals as adults may not be genetic as well but may be caused by some environmental factor. There are some interesting morphs popping up (such as the whites held by rabbit) and there is the start of other factors such as flashes of orange but these will take many more generations to develop to something permanent. I have the original mack snows that were bred by someone who had bred the very fancy varieties while living overseas and they were confirmed as mack snows by the experts on overseas forums. I have added more since and now have two unrelated breeding colonies. I have made one available for anyone who wants to breed this strain or others related to it and anyone that only wants to bad mouth will be blacklisted like muck05 (whoever he or she may be). Good luck all you serious gecko breeders.

    Hey guys,
Im reopening this thread because, like some of you suggested, I reduced his feedings down, feeding him less each meal and only feeding him twice a week (whereas before it was 2-3 times a week). However he has gained weight and is now 116 grams? He is going to the toilet fine. Can anyone help me understand this?

I was feeding him crickets for a long time but reverted back to mealworms because ran out. I reduced the number of mealworms compared to what he was previously getting before the crickets. Could the change from crickets to mealworms be the reason?

    Thanks; Jack

I think there are some strains popping up and also a lot of claims popping up. some of the claims in my opinion are bollocks. A small orange blotch on the tail is not a carrot tail even if with selective breeding over many generations it may get there.

Ooh mate if you saw what was popping out of my incubator you might be saying otherwise.....
Also giants are little more complex than your mack snow, simple artificial selection of the largest geckos and your chances for a 'giant' genetic mutation skyrocket.

    Hi Guys
I haven't been on here for a while...
I have managed to amalgamate 4 females.... it has taken me a while... No luck getting in touch with any of the recommended guys. A couple I did contact refuse to sell me males... bloody selfish is what I say... One well known who apparently contributes on here, gave the reason for not selling me a male as.. "the more people breeding them the lower the price they can be sold for and that's not great for me"... To me, that's just stupidity, the more available and at a lower price will only encourage people to buy them, and selling in volume at a decent price is better for the long term interest and genetic diversity... Most people can't afford $350 - $450 for a small pet.. then have to throw in the small vivarium and you top $1000... Ridiculous.
HFF in Albany had a baby this year... wanted $400 for it then price dropped to $320 then to $250 think it's gone now... They were doing a package of small vivarium with a heat lamp (wrong on so many levels). I actually asked the guy he said $800 -$1200 would be a good starter package for one gecko... in reality, a heat mat, two bowls, calcium and vitamins, meal worms and drink bowl.. with a couple of hides... and all in a small fish tank is more than enough for one gecko... all doable for less than $200.00 If geckoes were $120-$160 then that is doable for most.
I would love for someone to touch base with me willing to sell me a male and female or just a male and even keep in touch to exchange animals (genetics wise) start some sort of breeding... I am willing to invest...

Right now though I am willing to pay $500 - $600 for a proven male... Or up to a $1000 for a proven breeding pair...
Anyone looking to get rid of a breeding colony PM me I am willing to spend up to $2500 on animals...
