  1. hi everyone i have 210 litre tank with 4 young fancy goldfish 3 young plec and 3 young siamese agae eaters. My tank is run at a contant 21 degrees with a ph of 7.5 and hardness of 7 drops of liquid to colour change sorry dont know the correct way of writing that down.My query is i would like to add some tropicals to the tank such as either platies, mollies or guppies what i after is something to live in the middle to upper lvl of my tank. I like something with a schooling habit. the goldfish will be moving on to a bigger tank once room is painted and this tank will become my first tropical tank. any suggestion would be great
  2. not related to question but those are lovely fish lol if you think that photo bad mind are a tragedy i just get colour blurs
  3. angels are lovely fish remeber them from childhood my mother and brother had them. I took a bit longer to catch the fish bug having just got my first real tank this year after my daugther past on goldfish she had for mice. now my mums back into fish after large break from them too so this fish keeping bug once ya got it stays in the system oh well i must be addict in progress. Now just have two task getting the house painted then im allow to have another tank other half doesnt want to shift to many tanks about. secoundly convince daugther she does really want the new room with the concrete floor which i think would be a great room for my fish. so far on my list are angels, hoplo catfish and knowing me that cute little fish that just says buy me in the shop
  4. marine are very beautiful but thougth they migth be abit to technical for me. i do love catfish thougth have 3 plecs with my goldfish so a tropical tank with lots of catfish sounds nice. i wonder if my golden algae eaters could join them. p.s the goldfish tank is heated for the plecs thanks for the ideas
  5. not sure if i put this in the rigth place, I was wondering if there were tropical fish which are as friendly as goldfish ie acknowledge you when u enter a room or go near the tank, and feed out of your hand. I know discus and oscar are very friendly but are there any smaller fish which behaviour is silmilar i enjoy interacting with my fish even if they just think im a walking can of fish food. But after seeing so many beautiful tropicals on this site are thinking of trying a tank of tropicals.
  6. ive tried some tablets which the local fish shop recommended for their kind they dont seem interested at all. I had sick minnow in my big tank and remove it from there and stupidly thougth being so small they wouldnt be able to catch it place it with them doh stupid move they dispatch it very quickly making me feel very dumb. so i guess they are telling me they want meat with their vegetables. thanks for help i think i will have to keep trying differnet shop foods until i hit on something they like. expensive way but then goldfish will eat the rejected food quite happliy
  7. thanks for the reply kim think i fix problem by accident, one of my goldfish got a small scratch i added melafix to help the healing of the scratch then notice the others arent scratching either. Im told i get paranoia about my fish and worried to much about them.
  8. no my goldfish havent taken to wearing trench coats and flashing went i past their tanks. i think its called flashing. one of my fish rubs against the gravel he only does ever now and then another fish does it every now and then too the other two goldfish dont do it at all. there is no marks or skin changes and have tested the water everyday for the past week and cant find anything wrong there. im i being paranoia and they are just having a scratch or could their be a problem any help be great tums and silveeo mum
  9. i have two of these cute little guys which were in with my goldfish but had to remove them because the biggest one started to try to suck on my goldfish. My problem is i thougth they would eat the algae and whatever food i feed my goldfish since i have place them in their own tank i have discover they dont touch it and it just makes a messy in the tank. i have try bloodworms, brine srimp, a frozen mix called seriuosly green tucker but they leave that too. any ideas would be great thanks
  10. why i came to the conclusion one was male was because he has white dots on his gill cover was told this indicated he was a male the second fish has no white spots on gill cover just guess it was a male because it was following the same behaviour. Have seperated them but pearlscale still seems abit stress resting at the suface or bottom occasionally swimming still interested in food thou other fish with her are there normal selves and busy. she seems to breathing faster than other fish thou
  11. recently i added a female pearlscale to my tank and my two fantails aggressively chase her around the tank. I seperated the males from my tank because not only were they chasing the pearlscale but also my blackmoor and as the pearlscale was new i didnt want her stress by my amourous males. MY query is were the males chasing her because she is carrying eggs or were they trying to encourage her to produce eggs. being newbie not sure which way around it goes. If she carrying them now have i done the rigth thing by seperating will it hurt her if she doesnt lay. my main reason for the seperation was i was worry about stress on the new comer having just been brougth home and then meeting two very amourous males I thougth it migth be a bit much to bear for the poor girl. :-? :-?
  12. hi everyone been reading site for a while and thougth it was silly not to join. New to this hobby i started after daugther got three goldfish for her birthday and i didnt like the small plastic container they were living in so i went out and brougth a 210 litre tank aqua one model, daugther has since got bored of fish and change to mice. I have one celestail goldfish, one blackmoor, one pearlscale, and two fantails. Fancy goldfish are my perference would love 2 more such as veiltail blackmoor and pom pom but little unsure if theres enough room for them in my tank. My other tank i brought today is just small 22litre sickbay tank howfully wont be needed but its good to have on hand better safe than sorry. Would love to get more tanks but i think the other half migth have something to say about that . Considering the poor mans comp force into corner by my bug collection and greyhound dog,
