  1. only if they are caught at our border, once out of the country its open slather,I have heard you can even buy tuataras overseas?don`t know what the price would be but $40,000 for green geckoes, the mind boggles? Also reptile keeping is another dimension to what we are used to here.
  2. you would be surprised how far frogs can and do travel to find a pond?where I am no ponds or water other than a small creek and a few drains 1.5 -2k`s away.Built a fishpond and the frogs turned up?
  3. how did you work that out snakey?A handful of grass every other day and half a cup of bran and a 100 watt lightbulb is not going to break anyones bank?also quite simple to demobilise to bt speed with little imagination.
  4. lights are all well and good but can be somewhat of an unknowen quantity?Price is no indicator of quality one way or the other in my opinion.Without comprehensive testing who knows what is putting out what good bad or indifferent? The effective life of the tubes has always been knowen to be short but what gaurantees that the light is doing anything good or bad for that matter?I am thinking along the lines of using the sun as much as possible and let them take their chances through the winter with as much natural sun as I can find?
  5. don`t see that as a problem myself? They are basically only a holding facility after all.Consider yourself a rescuer when you take them home to your superior setup?
  6. have you heard the one about closing the stable door after the horse has bolted?
  7. the whole thing is big joke really.Things like chameleons that could not survive in the wild for any length of time,no way can`t have them, don`t even think about it.Water dragons can survive winter time by hibernation ,active and predatory, may even breed in a few select areas/microclimates???available for sale to any body with the money???
  8. there are plenty of reptiles that I would like but are not supposed to have,Does that mean I am an idiot???
  9. drop mincie a pm,he may be able to tell you.
  10. thats what happens my pond, interesting if you have two ponds side by side, one with fish one without, the frogs would lay in the fish free one first.
  11. rather than type it all out again how about you search back through the old posts?heaps about this topic.
  12. mine have heaps of beetles, worms and pupae in there. If they have adequate water in the form of a carrot or spud they don`t seem to eat the pupa?Your problem could be the temperature?Mine are in the lower hotwater cuppboard and with a wetback connected to the fire it gets rather wam in there at times?Mine change too fast for me if anything?
  13. don`t think the odd flyblowen sheep that I have come across would swallow that??

  15. some people buy everything going but never seem to breed squat?
  16. I would dispense with the spinach, seem to remember reading somewhere it inhibits calcium absorbtion in some way?can`t remember details at the moment but will check it out and repost later.
  17. maybe a good wakeup call for everyone with beardies, young ones in particular, the calcium requirements to build a robust skeleton in such a fast growing animal are huge.Calcium ,calcium and for desert?more calcium.
  18. i thought you liked the look in their eyes?
  19. time we had afresh pic of him sitting on your hand or something?
  20. lets hope they don`t get into AI ?
  21. they are all from governer gray`s releases on kawau island, have not really ever had population explosions due to a lack of prey items over here,I read somewhere.I am wondering if this may change in the future with the spread of the rainbow skink?maybe not in my time but who knows in years to come?
