  1. One way is to tee the emergency overflow into the standpipe, no need to drill a second hole in the glass, long as the inlets are a bit smaller so they cannot both get blocked down below. But other than that, what Chimera said.
  2. Absolutely. I see it all now. When you say something that is an opinion, you say so. All other pronouncements are facts.
  3. All off your chest now? Back to sumps....
  4. You need somewhere around a watt a litre, so for your 27 litre, 2 of those 13 watters would be sweet. However, in a tank that size a watt a litre may actually be overkill as it will not be as deep as a typical marine tank, the light will be closer. Also 6,500 k puts out more useable light for the corals than the 10 or 14 k that's normally used. Maybe you could just try the one 13 watter & have a few lower light mushrooms etc & see what happens. Go ahead! Doit Doit
  5. Don't actually have a sump myself, but I thought that was one of their functions, removing bubbles?
  6. All off your chest now? Back to sumps....
  7. You can if you insist, but that is how you get everybodies back up Layton. So much anger, you should focus on the constructive. Anyhow, instead of getting another thread locked, why not refer people to the origional durso thread, I'm pretty sure it's all been thrashed out, nothing to add. Back to sumps....
  8. Oh dear. Thought this was done and dusted months ago  I apologise Layton, I now realise that all your opinions are facts  . Anyhow, now you've got that off your chest, I trust you'll feel better. Back to sumps.....
  9. A phenomena that applies to more than just lighting. A study can be found to support nearly anything you want. Ask the tobacco industry!
  10. One thing to remember is even in a location where midday sun is directly overhead, before 9.00 am, and after 3.00 pm, the sun is striking the water at an angle less than 45 degrees. So presumeably some light is lost to reflection, the more full force of the sun would be felt for 6 hours a day.
  11. Good thinking that parallel idea is very clever. Like I said, you are definately a sumpmeister!
  12. Most plumbing is a mystery to me, but keeping it simple is good advice, however nothing wrong with well thought out more complex sumps either. KP recently designed a very good one, you could drop him a pm to ask further info on it. Chimera is also a bit of a sumpmeister! There was a big argument about Durso pipes a while back, with some very strong views on the subject. Before taking the advice not to use one, just be aware that they are the most popular device in use for their particular job, although there are alternatives. Sometimes people can be enthusiastic and state their opinion like it is fact. If having a fuge, the most common arrangement is to have the skimmer after the fuge. However this does depend what the fuge is for, macro algae, pods, or whatever. So if it was to breed pods and deliver them to the tank as an extra food source, then obviously you would have the skimmer before it. Only other opinions I've got is that liverock should be used, not bioballs or filter socks, although there could be reasons to use bioballs or filter socks, but generally better without.
  13. Interesting question, one I'd like to know also. Wonder if photoperiod would have an effect also? New thing I've just noticed in my tank, the tank is a 4 footer, couple of weeks or so ago I put a new 250 watt 14 k luminarc at one end, the other end has the old 300 watts 10 k while I'm waiting on bits to put a luminarc that end. Anyhow had a look thismorning and noticed that new sps growth has started pointing towards the 14 k luminarc, this is even from corals on the other side of the middle from the luminarc. The luminarc I'm waiting for will be 400 watts, so that will be an interesting test, against the 250 watter at the other end, see which they prefer.
  14. Just curious, did you see better health / growth after you started dosing kalkawasser?
  15. Cool. Have you seen any other zeovit tanks? Come & check mine out when you can. But as you can see, there are incredible tanks such as Puttputts, Reefs, Crackers and many more that don't use zeovit it is not essential.
  16. You just cannot help yourself. Get over it.
  17. What this? "will tht effect the browing iof the stag" If it does increase the numbers of zooxanthellae, it will increase browning. However, as the coral came from a zeovit tank, it is possible it will darken when going to a non zeovit system, nothing to worry about. Loss of blue at the tips though indicate growth has stopped. The main causes are likely to be one or more of these, wrong calcium or alkalinity level, wrong lighting, too much phosphate (impedes calcification), wrong flow.
  18. Sorry, I don't know anything about it. Some of these products make misleading claims as you will find after a while. Some are good though. If it really does feed zooxanthellae, this may be a good thing, or a bad thing, you would need to regulate it carefully.
  19. True enough, you argue with anyone, any subject, any time. It was the personal dig I found unnessecary, but not surprising. Get over it
  20. Layton I have no intention of another stupid debate, specially when I already know the answer. I see you just got another thread locked (again). Just thought that if you are going to take the time and trouble to have a dig at me, it would have been better all around if you had instead spent the time & trouble giving helpful advice to Bychineva, like you will see others such as myself doing. Seems lately 90% of your time is spent arguing with all comers, on any subject, long as you can start or join an argument, you'll be there.
