  1. Im like the idea of having a bearded dragon as a pet... but I kind of want him in a bigger enclosure than I see in pet stores. I have a few questions before I run out and try to find my dragon! If I were to build an enclosure outside (Is it even possible to do it outside or are NZ conditions too harsh for them??), what are the things I need to consider as far as basking rocks, substrate, flora etc compatible to make him feel most at home, and is easy to maintain and clean his business! Also what kind of costs are incurred on a monthly basis? Food and anything else? All of this of course is relying on the answer to this.... How friendly are they? Can I pick him up and pet him? Will he recognise me and want to be petted? I want a friend in my dragon.... not just another mouth to feed and be ignored by! And where I could purchase a baby one, as he would have to be all mine and mine alone
  2. About a month now I weight them down by putting small pieces of coral around the base, so they don't get dug up!
  3. also... is there a difference in branding of the water conditioners. One sells for $4.50.... while others can sell for $24. I usual get the nutrafin $24 bottle, but would the $4.50 (i think aqua one or API) work just as well?
  4. So I have just emptied a third of my 50gal tank, and tipped over my bottle of water conditioner in the process. Genius. For african cichlids, can I just use the hose to fill it up? Or will the chlorine go straight through my filter and kill all the bacteria, not to mention burn my fishes?? Please let me know asap...
  5. Would a 112 Litre tank be appropriate for her and her fry? I am slightly wary as to what to do next. Once her fry grow up, there will be aggression amongst themselves. But I cannot put her back into the male tank. Option A) Do I keep her in the separate tank, reluctantly use her fry as feeder fish (Very reluctantly- I almost want to cry!), and purchase 6 more females of the same type and a single male and let them become a harrem in the 112L? Option B) Or, Can I keep her plus a few new females, all different types together in the 112L, or will this be just as bad as 1 female and 6 males? Having the time of my life learning about them.... telling myself that stressing is just showing I care. lol
  6. Naw I will rehome her in a new tank with her fry and keep her in there while I decide how best to go about it. Will probably end up keeping my all male peacocks, and turning her tank into a Mum and Kids tank . Gotta make this work... no matter the cost! I am their father now lol I can't let any of them go!
  7. Yeah I use a stick on thermometer. It works ok I guess?
  8. I don't mind hybrids a beautiful fish Is a beautiful fish! I will or course not sell as pures to keep the hobby safe She is in with 6 male peacocks and 9 mixed electric yellows ! Do I need to go tank shoppingtomorrow? Wha size is a minimum for just her for a month?
  9. My orange dragon's blood female has joined forces with my red dragons blood male.... I did think they were both male. But I watched them do their dance, suck up her eggs and after waiting for 10 minutes for her to swim passed and open her mouth, I saw the eggs in there! So now she is holding, I see 2-4 Weeks to wait. I am flat broke and am in need of a spare tank to pop her in...without spending much, will a simple 20 litre blue planet be adequate for her only? Simple heater, built in filter and light? SO excited and want her to be all comfortable! I look forward to any replies! HOW EXCITING.
  10. Thanks so much for the advice! Heater 2 is in!
  11. Thanks! So you are 100% sure I won;t cook my fishes?
  12. So I have a 185L tank, and a 150 watt heater running at 26 and the water right next to it stays about 24. I also have a 200 watt heater, and was thinking about putting it at the other end of the tank. Should I put that also at 26 or will that make it to hot? DO they run at 26 or is there a thermo inside them telling them to shut off when water is 26? They are both Aqua One. Thanks!
  13. So I came across a picture of a Nano-Reef tank, was a Dymax IQ3. I loved the idea, but have literally no idea about marine- filtration, fish quantities, live corals etc. I currently have an african cichlid set up of 185 litres with aragonite, and really want to step into a mini reef! What do I need to think about? I would like something like this - White sand, live corals growing and moving, 2 clown fish and a crab! Thought it might look uber cute! Can not wait to wake up and read all of your many responses and recommendations! Sam
  14. Wouldn't like to name names as he has been extremely helpful Maybe he just wanted the males to impregnate his females! haha
  15. 185 L AquaOne 1200 Canister Filter 26 C Aragonite/coral/shell and River Rocks 9x Electric Yellows 2x Demasoni 1xAlbino Baenschi 1xLuwanda 1xEthelwynnae 1xPink dragon blood 1xOrange dragon blood 1xLemon Jake 1xAlbino ruby red And am saving for a larger tank... so this can become my breeding tank
  16. Yeah I totally didn't think there would be anything wrong! The person has been very knowledgable and helpful, so I do think they are cared for and healthy I have plenty of rocks for them to hide, but they are all getting along famously. Just one big yellow who keeps everyone in check But I don't think he is a bully.... just the man of the tank
  17. No I don't have an empty tank for them I have 9 Electric Yellows (mostly males...2 or 3 females), 2 Demasoni and I have these arriving tomorrow! 1 of each, All Male: Aulonocara Luwanda Aulonocara Lemon Jake Aulonocara Ethelwynnae Orange Dragon Blood Pink Dragon Blood Albino Ruby Red Albino Baenchi
  18. 7 Peacocks arriving tomorrow! Talked to my LFS today, and he said it may be useful to bring them in to him for 24 hours in his sump tank, to rid them of any disease they may be bringing in. Is this necessary? I am excited to get them into their new home.... but if you all think it is worth it, I can wait another 24 hours I guess. Let me know!
  19. Cement on its own probably wouldn't work well to hold the rocks together, hence why it's mixed with sand to make mortar or sand and crushed rock to make concrete. A few weeks should be fine if it's somewhere with a good flow of water, Under a downpipe would probably be perfect. If it's going in with africans a day or two would probably be good enough.
  20. Cement is ok? I just used a $11 bag I bought from Bunnings. How long is a while?
  21. Are these the same? Do I just go to Mitre 10 Mega, get the cheapest Glass Silicone and a Caulking Gun, and start gluing my rocks for me underwater waterfall?? I've already made one with cement.... and got told not to use it. So I would like to know what to buy before I build this time. haha THANKS
  22. This stuff is slimy, breaks apart in my hands, even comes out my filter (aquaone1200- that I filled with almost-mature media) Water has been in tank about 4 days. 27 C degrees. The filter is blowing it all around my tank, and its getting caught on my plants. looks like a silky white ribbon? What is this? Is it safe? How do I get rid of it?
