  1. 8' x 4' x 30" I believe that's 2.1 x 1.2 x 0.76. Not so good with this metric stuff just yet. :-?
  2. I have approximately 145 times turn over and just get two nice little piles to vacuum up. Unfortunately, they are in the back corners. :-? I actually think it is a little much since it is getting hard not to get direct flow on the corals as they grow. It's only short term though since the new tank that I'm putting together this year is going to be ~2000 liters and thus will only have ~35 times turn over with the current setup. Might have to get some of those Stream 6300's!! 8)
  3. If it settles back down on the rocks, then you might want to add more flow.
  4. Same. Mine is ~$175 per month. The rates are going up next month as well. From what I hear, we're still not as bad as some parts of Southern California where posts on RC claim it to be upwards of $0.35/KW. I'm doing everything I can to make the new tank as efficient as possible.
  5. I knew it was only a matter of time for this tank!! An absolute beauty!! I love the aquascape.
  6. Thanks heaps for the pictures! It does look quite good. With the pillar design, it always look MUCH better in person as well since it is almost impossible to get the depth it creates in a 2D picture. Looking forward to seeing some pictures of it all stocked up!!
  7. I've taken pictures/video in stores all over the world, including Melbourne. Just as Alan said, all you have to do is ask politely and let them know what you want to do with it. I tell them to share with my mates and possibly post on my local forum. Every time they've been stoked to get a bit of free advertising.
  8. Where are the pictures!!! I want to see this "awesome" aquascape too!!

    Lux meter

Awesome Chimera! A buddy and I were talking about doing the same thing, but MD doesn't carry their submersible Lux meter for another 6 months. Looking forward to seeing your readings under water. Cheers, Steve
  10. Don't worry, I know how and of course am more than willing to share the information. There were heaps of threads on fragging this type of coral on RC a few months back. When it gets ready, I will find the post for you.
  11. Nice!! A placement that the Efflo deserves. When that thing gets bigger, which shouldn't be long at this rate, I am definitely in line for a frag!
  12. puttputt, I certainly think that coral is sweet as well, but I was actually referring to the coral behind that one, i.e. the plating coral that appears to be turning green with a blue/purple rim (a. efflo?). I've wanted one of those for AGES!! I think they are amazingly cool when they get large and have a bright rim.
  13. I was actually just thinking/wondering the same thing on both points.
  14. That efflo in the back of the 5th picture is amazing. It has really started to color up and getting good growth. I'd be moving that baby to the front as a feature piece!
  15. Must be the barebottom!
  16. For mine, the instructions said to check both the pH and KH (Korallin).
  17. I haven't looked at the instructions for quite some time, but if I recall correctly, I believe that the conversion is linear and thus can simply scale up the readings to get a more accurate/easy reading than trying to dilute. I use Salifert, but would imagine that it would be the same for all test kits since they are reaction calculations???
  18. So, are you saying that the flow is better than the Streams in terms of amount of water movement and dispersion?
  19. ...and sand replacement as part of the regular husbandry.

    DSB

What purpose do you want the DSB for? If it is solely for nitrate reduction, then there's a huge thread on this at RC. Just do a search for remote deep sand bed or (RDSB). I have one of these on my system. Basically, it's a 70 liter trash can full of sand, kept in the dark, and has "clean" water flowing over it at a relatively high rate. I have no clue whether I am getting any benefit from this or not since I changed multiple factors with the tank at the same time. However, I did have enormous amounts of HA prior to its addition and I have almost none now. I was a bit desperate at the time and willing to try any form of snake oil. If you want the DSB for critters, etc..., then please disregard. Cheers, Steve
  21. What's the point of this???? I think this is a great discussion for which we can take what we want from it. If everyone just agreed to disagree, then what would we all learn from that?
