  1. The tank is a stock Blue Planet Hexy Midi 21.6L If I can I would like 2 suckers and 3 Minnows as well as the 7 shrimp, is that possible?
  2. I was kinda hoping I may be able to get like a chineese algae eater, or a borneo sucker. what sort of sized tank would I need to get either of those?
  3. Hi again all, I have a 21.6L tank with 7 native shrimp and a single (sadly the other died) White cloud Minnow. I was just wonder what else i could have in there, I also have a couple of smallish snails. Cheers in advance
  4. Tip to tail each is about 3cm long. They are all about the same size, so I either got lucky and found all males, in which case I should have them for quite a while or I got all females which means not so much.
  5. indeed I did, I used google scholar to find some bio records related to iron leakage and the effect on the steam life. and cruised on down to one of the tested streams, got a net in some oxygen weed and BAM! about 5 in the first go
  6. My aim for the tank is as "jungle"ish as possible, so I might just try and reverse my tank. which should maintain the plants wildness and give a bit of a better view
  7. woops, cheers for that. how did you fix that?
  8. So, after many moons of waiting and researching I have FINALLY got the fish tank I wanted (bar 1 more WCMM). Photos are below, please tell me what you think and if there are any improvements I could make. The shrimp you see there are the native fresh water shrimp. I have about 7 in the tank swimming around happy as.
  9. where abouts did you go blue? im looking to get some
  10. so as the title indicates, what are the right parameters for the water to keep fresh water shrimp. I should be getting some in the next week or so and im just wondering what "kind" of water they require apart from fresh water
  11. I have my tank set up, with some Java moss and some dwarf hair grass. 2 pieces of drift wood and a couple of slate like pieces of stone. the filter was used in a previous tank, and i was advised to keep it as it would have the proper bacteria already existing. Its a 3 stage filter, with small plastic balls then wool and something inside it then little hollow clay pellet things. however now the water is tinted a browny green. only very light and not cloudy. would doing a black out for a couple of days help? also, I will be going to tga soon. anyone know where I can find the shrimp there? I only want like 5-10 of them so I wont be stressing the stream for them at all. or maybe PM me maybe if you have some you would be willing to ship to me? I would be more than happy to pay for your time and postage
  12. I have the tank set up, with some drift wood a couple of stones and a load of java moss. I am just now waiting for some dwarf hair grass to plant for a difference. can dwarf hair grass be planted in just the gravel you get with most tanks, or in a hold in one of the pieces of driftwood? also, how do I know when there is a decent enough nitrogen cycle,is there anything to look for?
  13. so I have seen some java moss on TM is that kind of thing any good? or should I get it from a store?
  14. apart from the shrimp dying, how do I know if there is enough dissolved oxygen?
  15. so, a couple of questions. if my filter set up ( in the previous photos ) alright? will the oxygen be high enough just using that? and what kind of plant will I need as a ground cover type thing? I like the look of some hair grass in some tanks and will be looking to get some of that to break up the ground cover. and maybe some java moss pressed into the driftwood. also, do i need to do anything to the drift wood before its used in the tank?
  16. also, do these shrimp like going through stones and stuff, or could I have a fully covered base? the stick thing in the photo will be there and I plan on having some plants growing from that.
  17. if you could give locations ill just catch the Hamilton to raglan bus over with a couple of mates and just make a trip of it all? just so you dont need to take time off anything or worry about anything like that
  18. for a low maintenance plant what should I look for? cause I may go for a quick hunt while im in rotorua
  19. cheers, I may have to do that when I get the plants for my tank sorted
  20. thats fair enough mate. I dont think im going to be in tga any time soon but if I am ill let you know. so far talking to all the pet stores and everyone I know there is no information on these little buggers. what would raising Koura require?
  21. fishguy, do you think you might be able to send me some shrimp? im not having any luck finding these things. not right now cause I dont have the setup but in future, ill pay for time and shipping if you want? or do you know of a creek in hamilton or rotorua where I could find them?
  22. so this is the tank I have would I need to get something different to plant the plants in or would that gravel stuff be fine? any suggestions on the filter or the setup in general???
  23. so I have purchased one of these tanks http://www.hollywoodfishfarm.co.nz/deta ... di/m/1015/ from TM for $70 which im pretty happy with. it comes with the light and filter as well as some fake gravel stuff. what should I get for the substrate? and has anyone gone to any streams or anything in hamilton for the shrimp?
  24. any locations for the little buggers?? who has gone out and caught the little dudes?
  25. aaaaaaaaaallrighty now to the thrust of it all, im going to go and have a look for some of these little buggers in the next few days and try catch them with a mate who has a tank established. where in hamilton can I find them. has anyone caught them in hamilton if so where???
