  1. how long did it take to catch 5 kribensis .. 2 hours. oh sigh. Anyways .. done and I have for you .. tank layout number 3 .. in second.
  2. BGK is out of the tank for trying to kill another fish. He is *now* in another tank. kribensis have almost all but demolished the riccia. They are moving too. I don't know why I was expecting them to play nice ..
  3. When you see your tank in the morning and you have a cory with his eyes missing - you begin to wonder who the culprit is .. then you see your BGK ... He is moving to a new tank today - After living in my community tank since he was a baby .. and have no issues with him ... but then again - he is getting bigger now. Water is a bit yellow this morning after the new wood was added. But I have some purigen to go into the filter later today - It will be interesting to see how well it works for me.
  4. Yes, everyone is very happy - it is a very active tank. The plant growth is amazing me. I might even the glosso has gone absolutely stupid. I will be pulling it out one night this week and replanting it. I didnt have time today. It has doubled in size in just 7 days which is unexpected. I have more moss than I know what to do with .. I have already pruned 2 times since it was put in. I think I have the trees looking good now. The grasses have really come to life as well. I already feel like I should be pulling the dwarf hairgrass out and splitting it up again. I will bring the camera in tomorrow and take some more pics for this journal and for those who are interested.
  5. Riccia is looking good .. was taking some photos and was approached by some curious RAMS!
  6. I have always planned to have a large amount of open water in the top of the tank. I think it's good for the fish .. but on seeing some of the other planted tanks - i might reconsider.
  7. Thanks ... yes .. just off to the right there is another tank with alot of spare plants. I will go through tomorrow and see what I can find. In the background is actually jungle VAL and one or 2 other taller variety of plants. This will nicely fill in the back behind the wood. I wanted to mix wood and rock .. but .. finding it hard to visualise a layout ... so I opted for 2 different scenes .. A more traditional planted garden on the right .. and a who knows what on the left. My wife agrees that rocks and wood mix would look cool. I'll sleep on it.
  8. yes - Schist from stone and water world in panmure. $1.06 per kg ...
  9. I would love to hear your thoughts - i'm certainly no planted tank guru tbh. This is my first attempt.
  10. tomorrow I am going to replant the Glosso in smaller bits to finish the carpet i want. I will then take some decent pictures. Lights are off now .. so can't take a pic without the blurriness. Have a fantastic night fishkeepers!
  11. I'm not one to do things without planning. I give you. Tank version 2. Hopefully win a few more fans.
  12. Yeah I didnt want to skimp but then again - i didnt want to go silly either. I was quoted 5 - 7k just for a tank and stand custom built and a 5 grand lighting package without even thinking about fish, substrates or plant or filtration. ust removed the bad wood. Now contemplating my next step.
  13. Just got back from Pupuke - I have some new house guests that will be moving into the tank in the next little while... Also picked up some new hard wood. I now have a very good selection to finish the scape on the left hand side of the tank. Now to dismantle part of the tank (good thing nothing has been growing for too long just yet .. I hope I dont upset anything .. Casper .. the BGK is living in a tree at the moment. I will see if I can take a picture for you later today.
  14. Today is all about wood and a couple of new unique fish .. I'm about to leave on a round of the local fish shops .. first stop .. pupuke .. !
  15. I hope it's out of view! Where do you work?
  16. It all depends.... on how serious it is .. as hovmoller says above... Are the gill covers damaged at all ? if he was attacked there should be some visible damage .. How old is the fish ? If it is still fairly young there is a chance that it could grow back and recover .. if it's not too distressed you could just wait on it for a few days and see whether it starts to make a recovery... if it's an older fish or the injury is quite severe... then the damage can lead to death. Have you got a tank it can be in on it's own for now? If it is obviously struggling to breath and move the kindest thing you can do is put it down. Are both sides affected? If you decide to end it's life - be respectful of the fact that it can feel what's going on and that it deserves the same diginity any other living creature does. Here is a good article talking about some of the humane methods. http://www.ratemyfishtank.com/articles/81 and read this too http://www.ratemyfishtank.com/articles/81 If your a little more hearty and want a quick result - a very very sharp knife .. If you are going to hesitate though .. (like I would) get someone else to do it who isnt going to chicken out half way through and prolong the misery for the fish. Good luck.
  17. Lol .. it's only money .. Just imagine if it was a marine tank of that size ... LOL.
  18. I reckon I spent perhaps 1500 on tank 1500 on lighting 1500 on filtration + heater 2000 on substrates and plants 500 on stand maybe 1100 on fish plus maybe another 1000 on misc stuff, chemicals etc ... i reckon I still need to spend around $1000 to finish the tank off. all money I would happily spend again.
  19. we call our BGk mr wiggles ..
  20. I got all of my new fish from Ron @ Pupuke Aquarium .. His fish selection is amazing I had more success in 1 trip getting fish from Ron than anywhere else previously. I was lucky to get the RAMS. I can see why they are hard to get your hands on. 6 in my tank .. just had to have them. Hoping to add another 6 - 8 of them - one of the most amazing fish to date I have owned. This weekend we need to get some algae controllers .. Ron .. I forgot to get some flying fox's when I was over ... so expect me in the weekend at some stage
  21. that is actually the secret hairgrass garden.
  22. molly eating some grass! oi you .. get off my grass! top left of the tank suck you ! fish everywhere Angelic This is Pollock! wider view of left of tank Can you see the BGK The tank I love this area of the tank Looking down the tank
  23. just uploading them now. :smln:
  24. hehehe - The BGK is about the size of a ball point pen at the moment. He is very little and we will be watching him very closely - He has been in a community tank for sometime now and we have not had any issues, however this may change as he grows. The angels are from a community tank too. The are happy to hassle the male betta for now .. be he has plenty of space in the tank to co-exist. I am starting a fish count and diary to track daily events and changes .. I would love it if everyone just got along. We will see. Photos today after lunch I promise. - I will get in trouble with my wife if I spent too long in front of the tank today. !
  25. bro - got fish? Lol. New colony of fish added yesterday. and all old fish added to the tank. You will all be disgusted to know that my 2 sailfin plecos, Black Ghost Knife and Large Siamese algae eaters + 2 gold head angels are now in my new tank. Along with 5 blue rams, around 8 gouaramis, male and female betta fish .. 10 bristlenoses .. 10 corydoras (who look stunning btw) .. mollies, harlequin rasboras, headlight tetras .. around 150 assorted tetras .. all schooling which is amazing .. The fish are all amazingly active and my old grumpy opaline gouarami has some new friends .. which is really cool as he was very solitary in the old tank.
