Wow - nice build. Perhaps I will have to rethink my exterior of my cabinet
-
LOL. Looking at the tank tonight and I saw something small moving by the filter intake .. closer inspection I spot maybe 10 bristlenose babies lol. Good luck to them I say.
-
Yeah - I think so .. Much happier than I was. Still - the hinges for the doors could be put inside and the doors rehung. The boys at work give me plenty of stick to keep me motivated, It's my first building project tbh.
-
mostly done with the hood. Just need to finish the lids. Also .. playing with the lighting. Things left to do .. (lol) Hardscape - UV Filter - Co2 - Planting - fish .. controller.
-
Painted boxes look good. I also lined the corners of the tank with black vinyl tape to hid the edges and the silicon. Just doing another coat of paint .. here is a pic from earlier today without the corners done and before the final coat of paint.
-
Hahaha - It certainly gave me an excuse .. YES !!
-
Hood is 90% complete .. here is a small teaser : Currently undercoated .. with the first 2 coats of paint. I will see how it is tomorrow before deciding on new coats. Next step is to decide how to mount the lights. At the moment what you can see is just the exterior hood .. which will be a unit on its own .. and freestanding.

I'm sure whoever built it would be more than happy to pop around and help you resolve the issue. Give them a call - and the opportunity to fix it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I agree... I really need to work hard on the scape this time.
-
Yeah - Raymond is someone everyone should know Yes - The key challenge I have is my tank depth being 800. I'm wary that is may create some issues for me. I was getting to a point where I needed to replace my t5 bulbs so it was decided a move to LED's instead .. as my tank is really suffering from a lack of light. I am trying to track down a par metre so I can provide some feedback. In the infant stages of the plants, I plan to keep the water level down a hundred mill of so - It will obviously help. The great thing about the LED setup is that the chips are replaceable, with loads of configurations available. I'm certainly excited to see how they perform.
-
Hey Godly, good question. Yes - here is a link to the lights I have installed for reference. We have reconfigured the LED setup specifically with the colour spectrum we believe is going to be best for my planed tank. viewtopic.php?f=24&t=62785 lotofish is an amazing guy btw.

New light setup today. Removed the T5HO setup. Installed 2 x 80cm and 1 x 40cm LED setup. Lights on : Controllers are mounted on the back of the cabinet. At the hardware store trying to visualise and work out the hood setup. This part is going to be an aluminium frame which the lights attach to and which opens with hinges to give me full access to the top of the tank without the need to lift anything out of the way. (that's my very supportive wife) A base hood will sit around the outside and there will be a top on the hood. This is an example. This is the type of look I'm heading for : The hood will be a bit slimmer on top though.

Pictures of what I have been up to : First up some setup pics from the new 600 litre we installed. Flat packed stand Assembled .. We had to do this 3 times .. (don't even ask). Tank being unwrapped. A good friend of mine standing guard. Tank in Place : Took 4 of use to lift it New substrate in Scaped and time to fill. We used 50% water from the big tank (around 280 litres) and used a quick start and new water mix to top it up. One of the canister filters from the other tank is not on this new tank. NEW TANK COMPLETE. I borrowed some scape from the big tank so the fishies feel like they are at home. Today we installed the new LED light system on the main tank .. I also designed a hood which I will be building this weekend. More soon.

I ran out of plants before I ran out of snails I kid you not though .. In the days since most of the destructive fish have been out of the tank (I'm yet to catch a couple) I'm already seeing my Glosso start to make a comeback which is great.
-
Yeah the planted tank has been a little while in the making. (the destructive fish are the Clown Loaches, 2 x Sailfin Plecos and my Cory's which dig .. everything up).
-
Well worth every cent. It's a drop compared to what I am spending rejuvenating my planted tank Largest tank I could find at short notice. Dachende is right.. got the tank for the destructive fish to live in.

You probably don't want to use T8 lights, unless your plants are happy with a lower light. (for a planted tank you would normally use T5HO lights). MH or LED is going to be the safest option. Unfortunately if you are trying to do this on a budget with such a deep tank it's going to be a real challenge. One trick though - if you really cannot afford big lights - is to only half or 2 thirds fill the tank until the plants mature. Light travels just fine through air, it's when it hits the water that the trouble starts.

I am running a co2 setup yes.

Configurable - controller driven - Aquarium specific LED lighting system.

Hi all - To get an idea of what I have done with my tank and where I have come from - it might be useful to read my build thread here : viewtopic.php?f=28&t=59027 - This should give you a good idea as to what I have done. So .. I have the a tank that is 50% completed. What I mean by that is I have the tank .. the stand (although it's ugly as hell) and the following: 1. Mint substrate 2. Good water consistency 3. Good filtration 4. t5 lighting 5. Fish And I "had" plants. Now my issue was - my selection of fish .. and my lighting. I thought everything was sweet and I was on the home straight to success, however let's take a quick look at the state of the tank now : As you can clearly see - it has turned to custard. It was 90% complete and then I ran out of time and energy. Well - I'm back at it .. and now is the beginning of round 2. First up was a new tank. The Aqua One Aquience 1800 600 Litre badboy was setup on the weekend. This is housing my "destructive fish". Leaving my main planted tank - with peaceful non-disruptive in habitants. I will add some updates covering : 1. Lighting 2. Stand and Hood (which will be built) 3. New planting 4. New HardScape - Yeah .. I know the first layout was terrible. So Plans : 1. Changing from T5 to High Tech LED lighting. 2. Building a hood for my tank. 3. Finish the skirting on the stand .. and finish the façade so it looks good. 4. Correct fish this time. 5. New hardscape 6. New Plants. Stay tuned.

Yo this is crazy stuff. Can I have 2 please. Send me the details and price and I'll transfer the cash.
-
So yeah .. I went out this afternoon and got the Aquaone Aquience 1800 tank. Rang a fishshop I have not dealt with before and even though it was 4pm on a Saturday they were happy to deliver today. An hour later I had my tank. I couldn't believe it. Best service ever. Went in to pay and they have everything. (Store was Petstop Newmarket). So the tank is already setup - has had one of my main canister filters moved to it .. has had everything installed .... filled it with water from my main tank .. and had some start smart added. Here is a quick pick .. I'm going to create a new thread in DIY .. to talk about why I had a sudden want to get a new second tank. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/705/newtanko.jpg/

Hey all - looking to buy a 400 - 600 litre tank. I'm specifically looking a the juwel rio 400 and the aqua one 1800 - Looking for comments - thoughts about which tank people would go with. Obviously the size is different .. one has a built in filter etc .. Links : Juwel http://www.hollywoodfishfarm.co.nz/deta ... ack/m/925/ and Aqua one tank : http://www.trademe.co.nz/pets-animals/f ... 576067.htm
