  1. I got 2 x 400W'ers on there now, just the two on the right. Bulbs are 14K's. I'm absolutely amazed at how much better lit the tank is now (photo doesnt really show it that well), but am still very impressed by how well T5's can do. Take your choice on lighting (be aware of the halide combinations though and that the middle 150W'er in the first p Here's the tank with 3 x 150W'ers (14K, 10K, 14K) and 4 x T5's (2 whites and 2 blues) Here's the tank with 1 x 150W (left, 14K) and 2 x 400W'ers (middle/right, both 14K) No T5's (I have 2 x white T5's still to hook up, one front, one back. Cant afford 3rd 400W'er til next month) Colour wise, I think I like a middle combination of the two. Intensity wise, even though the pic with T5's looks intense, there are large shaded areas that the 400W with lumen arc reflector covers with ease (see right side of glass where stream is)
  2. kewl, im off to snowplanet to do some boarding and get warmed up for the season!
  3. thats probably the limiting factor - distance to the sea 2 minutes locally, or on the way home from work most days
  4. chesters or mico's. ask for trade price, alot cheaper!
  5. sweet, you're onto it then mines drilled at the back too, no problem at all with that
  6. obviously? not in seawater, theres too much of it for ammonia to be a problem. you'd have to be collecting from a stagnant pool to get it that bad main issue is higher than normal salinity (just add water )
  7. ummmm,... so water goes into the overflow and the overflow acts as your sump??? that doesnt make sense, you have to have a bulkhead at the bottom of your overflow otherwise da water cant git outtin' it the area of overflow (where the water falls over) does not give you lph, the size of the pipe does. the area simply gives you a lower/higher water level
  8. and further to suphew's comments, dont 'glue' your standpipe in. just have it push fit incase you need to take it out to clean (or in my case get a coral i dropped to the bottom of the overflow )
  9. ??? its not that much effort  plus you still got a bit of work to do mixing up asw ...not to mention the cost! do your tank a favour, give it some nsw and up those sewerage levels
  10. mine got blown off the rock too but never could find them. one actually sunk down into the rock and disappeared! misnoma, looks like yu will be one of the very few with them, i think they were reasonably rare?
  11. ditto cracker probably has a hundred by now, mr zoo!

nice layton, you gotta good mix of colour there!
  14. I finally went and saw crackers setup today, have not seen the new tank since hes cube tank last year. Wow, simply awesome!!! 10/10 for effort, 20/10 on the final result! Most impressed for only a 9 month setup! and a big thanks for trading frags - and even bigger thanks for your extra generosity on the return trade! will be very interested to see how that blue tip comes out in your tank. dont forget to take photos!
  15. who says i bought it for myself and whats it your business anyway? "another trademe setup" - thats particularly amusing coming from yourself reef - lost count of the bids you've put on your mates sales. and its quite interesting the people's trademe accounts you seem to be monitoring...
  16. awesome dude! closeup pics?
  17. that last pic is a fake. look closer at it i got the monti 6 down - tan colour with bluish/purple highlights (not as intense as this pic though) but still quite pretty

  21. if u r in wellies, buy these to make some reflectors http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... d=59914325 then send me some sheets up!!!
  22. im picking the ones you're importing are pre-riveted! i'd be keen on giving it a go to make one myself. next one i buy off ya i'll make a paper template of it first then see if i can buy some sheets of aluminium and try
  23. i simply said that i dont believe they are a bargain for what they are - in other words the cost of the material and labour to put them together would be next to nothing. you are simply paying for the effect they provide!
