  1. .Since I stopped medicating the ring in his eyes has reduced . Still no idea what the cause is. But hes happy and seems healthy ... nit eating pellets but think thats because i spoiled him and fed him to much beef heart.
  2. Yes both eye there is also a bit of white on the "socket" as well on both eyes. Thanks
  3. Hi. My Oscar has a white ring around his eyes . What would cause this ? I have been treating him for fungal infections and open saw on his body, with Wonder tonic and Furan-2 , the saws on the body have do the fungas comes and goes, I have been treating for 2 weeks now. The Oscar in the tank keeps getting white patches on his fins, that I assume to be fungus, I treat with Wonder tonic and tonic salt, then it comes back later. When I check the ph, ammonia and nitrates they are all fine. its hard to get a clear value when the water is tinted by Wonder tonic, but I'm sure they are fine. Why would the fungus keep coming back, the 2 Silver dollars and pleco don't seem to be affected, by this fungus or what ever it may be ? Greg
  4. Moved him to a tub. with air stone and heater .. But as far as I can tell he's dead. don't get a response no mater what I do. :-( Thanks to all for the help n support.
  5. Thanks for the advise. I would have used the wool from my other but my gouramis have been loosing scales , I treated with the same meds and as what I'm using for the Oscar tank, just finished a weeks treatment, They are swimming around fine and eating but looks like they have lost a few more missing. I don't want to transfer any active diseases. I'm going to move him to a 50L bucket and treat him there.
  6. Water is still stable no change in any of the parameters. But the earth leakage tripe the power while I was out after 2pm , only got back at 10pm, no clue how long they where out. Bad news looks like fungus, please confirm ? I have changed my approach from running making lots of changes hoping for a fix to try one thing give 24 hours and see to decide next action. I'm treating the whole tank with Melafix and Pimafix as I don't want the other fish to fall ill. He is still swimming around when in the mood although not as active as he should be, and still not eating. Next step if he doesn't improve in 24 to 48 hours is to put him in a 50L bin that I use for tank cleaning etc, and use the 100L filter for him ,and treat with heavy meds , while continuing the Melafix and Pimafix in the main tank as a preventative measure.
  7. I have posted a request for cycled media. Thanks
  8. Hi. I bought a 2nd hand 300L tank that came with 2 Oscars , 2 Plecos (1 has been re-homed) and a silver dollar. The filter / pump was DOA and had to be replaced , I got the wrong pump, I have the correct filter now, I made another beginner mistake of not keeping the gravel as is , the water and gravel was really bad, so I ended up ditching the water , and going without gravel for a while, then I cleaned the gravel with boiling water and put it back, this helped fix the ammonia problem. I'm battling, as one of the Oscar is sick. He's always the first to stress and last to recover , now he's actually sick (that story here http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=58020&start=15) . I'm using Nitra-Zorb pouches in the filters to manage the Nitrate and Nitrite. But this will slow down the the cycling so it's only a band-aid. I'm looking for some cycled media that can use in Ehieme Classic 350 filter, to help stabilize the tank so that I can reduce the water changes and stress on the fish. Thanks
  9. New symptom : As of last night when I got home I noticed he has scales that are falling off. Good news : He's up and swimming around so far no more blood from the gills that I can see. The water parameters have stabilized with ph 6.8 and the rest down to 0. I have been treating with aquarium salt. The nitra-zorb pouches seem to be doing the trick. Only thing now is to get him to eat, he's been off food for last couple of days. I did 1/4 water change this morning. So long as the water is healthy I'm going to keep the changes to a minimum and will keep a close eye on the sick one.
  10. No don't know anyone , IV asked the local pet n fish stores with no luck. Its 300L tank im running a 350 classic ehieme filter since Tuesday. I have added a nitrasorbe pouch to this filter. I'm still running the other 100L fiter I bought in error, that also has a nirtasorb pouch in it since Monday, this filter replaced the one I got with the tank 2 weeks ago that was doa , un fortunelty I got the tank at the same time there were dramas at wor so the poor fish have suffers for my errors. I did a small water change 1/4 as the ammonia is 0 , and the nitx are almost correct. Will check it before I go bed. I have added aquarium salt based on the water I have replaced.
  11. Some days up to 1/2 , yesterday 2 x 1/3 , this morning almost 1/2 depending on the state of the water .. last couple of days ammonia is near 0 , and the nitrate , nitrate where still high but much better . Problem is the tanks hasn't cycled yet so throwing away the water I'm loosing bacteria that I'm growing. Lol last time I buy a tank that comes with fish in it..
  12. What will the effect of Metronidazole be on the other fish as I have no where to put them or him :-( ? Do I get that from the petshop ? Thanks Greg
  13. I had a look at that. Its very possible :-( .. This morning he was resting on the bottom of the tank , when disturbed him, it looked like he had blood coming out of the gills , clouds of brown stuff , and he's really battling to breadth. Ammonia was near 0 this morning, Nitrate and Nitrite where down for yesterday , I did a 1/3 water change , and added the normal water treatment. I can't cycle the tank any faster. And lots of large water changes are going to make it take longer for the bacteria to build up. Should I be looking at using one of those nitrate lock type to help detox the tank and give him a chance to recover ? I'm at a loss.. It would be really sad to loose him as the 2 Oscars have been together for a long time and seem to be paired. :-(
  14. Hi. Thanks for the feedback. I managed to touch the area, was difficult it wouldn't stay still long enough to actually feel the texture of the infected area. And the other Oscar made a few moves at me lol .. Seems there is a tiny hole in the center , and a small sting mucus or some secretion after I touched the area. I can't get a pic of it as the camera on my phone is to slow to get the detail needed :-( .. This is the best I can get. Looking at it again the hole seems to have gone. Are new scales white ? Any suggestions with this new information .. Thanks
  15. Assuming fungal infection I should treat with API Pimafix http://www.apifishcare.com/products/product.aspx?productID=57 , is there a better solution ? Thanks
  16. Hi. I have just noticed that one of my Oscars has a white bump on it's head that I'm sure wasn't there yesterday. It's had to get a clear pic , this is the best I have been able to get : The tank is still cycling, ammonia is ok the last 2 nights, but nitrate and nitrite are still very high, I have been doing 1/3 water changes. The other fish in the tank don't see as distressed as this one . It has been the most easily distressed since I got the tank and fish. It has always been breathing herder that the others. Edit pH: 6.8 Ammonia: 0.25 mg/L Nitrite : 1.0 mg/L Nitrate: 10 mg/L end Edit Is there any one in Hamilton (East) that would be able to stop by and take a look I'm new at this, and need some help. Willing to shout pizza n beer if needs be :-)
  17. Thanks for the feed back. Very informative information. :-)
  18. Thanks for the feedback. The water from the tap is a lot colder that the can , so wanted to reduce the stress to the fish :-) .. A friend has advised me I should age the water to allow the chlorine dissipate. Is this a good thing to do ? Thanks Greg
  19. Thanks for all the assistance. After checking the levels I came to the conclusion that I'm loosing a battle trying to fix the current water, especially with my under-rated filter (Over tired with work etc, I wasn't thinking and in a rush to replace the boken pump I bought a one for a 100L and not 300L, will be replace shortly). And the fish looking really poorly. I bit the bullet and did a +/- 80% water change. To get the water temp rite and add the treatment I used a 50L bucket and mixed my initial water in it with a temp of 27degC and added Stress Coat , Stress zeime, And proper PH. I then used the pump to get the water in the tank will I topped up the header bucket . I also added the new heater (original with the tank has condensation inside it) and UV filter , and a bubble curtain. All the fish are now actively swimming around ,the pleco's fins are standing proud, and the Siver Dollar seems more settled . If you are interested I made 2 videos http://youtu.be/0xsu48l2H4I http://youtu.be/d02HX0DViFs Comments and advise are welcome. Thanks Greg
  20. Good to hear :-) rather scars then is being sick. They came with the 300L tank, from what I have read the tank I have is just big enough for 2. Thanks Greg
  21. Hi. I have just go a 2nd hand tank that came with 2 Oscars, 2 plecos and a silver dollar. The tank was in a state. The fish have started eating again and seem to be adjusting ok so far. The one Oscar has light grey marks on its on side, I'm not sure if they are disease marks or scars ? Thanks Greg
  22. Hi All. thanks for the advice .. To put it polity the tank was in a foul state. I have removed most of the gravel for own as it more likely to be toxic. When I got it home the pump is not working , so the guy is coming over later to have a look. When I added to water I added stress coat and stres zime , I put some of the old water back , but it's shocking. The tank is very murky. I have air and the heater running :-) .. The fish are moving around , it what seems to be a normal manor. I'll do water change to morrow night. Thanks for all the advise hope to post pics of a healthy tank soon :-)
