  1. Replacement inlet/outlet parts ordered. A quick search shows a lot of people seem to take sand straight off the beach for tanks, I like the idea due to the dark sand here but is it legal here? If I'm going for lots of plants I presume an under layer to the sand is preferable, didn't bother last time, just planted straight to the sand but I assume a clay layer of some kind would be preferable? no, Hydor
  2. tested. After an initial hissy fit and leaking all over the place I checked to find that it wasn't fully sealed. Took it apart, put it back together properly and the pump / filter ran perfectly. Not to noisy and will be even less so tucked away in the press. I'll buy a replacement O ring anyway just to be sure.
  3. I've already stripped and cleaned the pump. Seals etc all good. haven't turned it on yet though. Must go do that...
  4. not sure what yet tbh, depends what available down in the corner of the world / country plants won't be used or maybe just fill in some gaps. I fully intend on planting it up properly The tubing should be ok enough to get, more the plastic end parts that could be a problem
  5. So just gone through all the bits that I bought, a few bit need replacements, need some help figuring out where to get them. here's a complete list of what I got 218L tank stand Hood with built in light unit Rena 300w heater Hydor Prime 20 external filter full of nodules, sponge and filter wool An ornamental bell A bag of gravel A plastic bag full of plants; about 20 of them altogether Air pump and airlines A big bag full of chemicals and test kits Tank, temporarily stored out the back till I figure out where it's going. Filter: While the body of the filter is good I need to get replacement tubing and inlet / outlet pieces. The inlet pipe is missing and the outlet is disgusting. Anyone know any shops that I could source replacement parts from in NZ? The chemicals etc: comprehensive selection Airpump: I might need to replace some of the tubing, it's gone quite stiff in places.Anyone know what the point of the little clear plastic cases are? Not bad for 300 bucks Any help with the filter parts would be great or any good/bad comments about any of the stuff would help too.
  6. Slightly sooner than planned but I now have a tank. :happy1: :happy2: Came up on trademe and couldn't resist. 300 bucks got me a 220L custom built tank 120x38x48, an external filter, heater, air line, hood and lighting, cabinet, lots of fake plants, stones, loads of spare filter "wool" and lots of chemicals. Will Start a thread and post photos in it so hopefully you can tell me what anything I'm not sure is is. Deal of the year!!! Just needs a replacement part for the filter, one of the plastic parts that goes in the tank and connects to the rubber hoses. Here's the photo from trade me
  7. Thanks guys. Hopefully will pick up a tank somewhere is late Feb/March (I should get some Irish tax back by then :happy1: ) Fish wise I don't mind the simpler ones, some nice tetras, corys and gouramis will do me, maybe an angel or two; nothing too fancy really. I'd like to spend more time this time around getting the tank and plants looking really good. Also need to figure out what brands of equip are common and easy to source down here for filter pads etc so that may well be totally different to home.
  8. Hi All, Introducing myself to the forum. I've recently enough moved to New Plymouth from Dublin. Haven't got a tank here yet but will plan on getting one at some point. Hoping to get something in the 125-200L range, bigger than the last one but not massive just yet. Had a 90l tank at home, It was my grandfathers that he used for fish then went in the attic, got used for gerbils and eventually fish again for a while before we moved. Here's a pic of it Cardinals, some cory, a honey gourami and a few assassin snails made up the fish life Anybody able to tell me what's available around New Plymouth shop wise, I've seen the pet store in the Richmond centre but is pretty limited and the Warehouse but wouldn't rate that too highly I reckon...
