  1. Welcome KM, no you are alone as a "foreigner", I am an Aussie (I know I am alot closer than you are). I hope you find this site as informative and fun as I do. Try out the name that fish threads going in the fun category, it's a light hearted way to learn about the fishies we all love.
  2. Another good place to find glass is in a trader type newspaper (ie Trading Post). Look under "shop fiitings" or "building materials". Sometimes you may find something in freebies or bargains under $50. Last week I bought 8 tanks (ranging from 15L to 40L), a trailer load of glass and 3 air pumps, all for $40. Only 5 of the tanks are repairable, but the sheets of glass alone are well worth the money. Most of the sheets are at least 3ft x 2ft. If you hunt around for bargains, you will, 9 times out of 10, find them.

    NAME THAT FISH!

    Are you a "firemouth",
  4. I am not going to bother with a glass cutter. The glass place I use charges $10 for up to 25 cuts, and guarantees any breakages. Can't go past that offer. This applies for glass up 10mm.

    NAME THAT FISH!

    Are you a dwarf cichlid?
  6. My clowns constantly "harass" me when it is cleaning time, when ever I put my hand in their tank, they get in my hand and don't let me get any work done. No I don't show my fish, I have them for my own relaxation.
  7. Sorry, it is in foot. Not your eyes at all, I put inches.
  8. Tiger oscars for the one coming in soon. the other 2 not sure yet, probably move the kribs into one and I have to think about the other. I am open to suggestions.
  9. Just letting you know, that you have well and truly gotten me addicted to making my own tanks. The first one has not leaked since I last told you, so keeping my fingers crossed it won't start. Just curious, I was down at the local glass cutter the other day (getting 10mm cut, lol) and he told me that the tempered glass I had would not be able to be used to make a tank. I know it can't be cut, but why can't it be used? I think he was just an idiot, but maybe he was right. Thought you would be the right one to ask. I got my hands on 4 sheets of it, 6mm and 5"x 1.5". Advantages of working in a shopping centre.
  10. I have 4 of them with the 2 that are "acting funny" being approx. 7". They can actually get to be slightly larger than a foot, but I personally haven't seen them over about 10". They would have to be one of my all time favourite fish, they have so much personality and it differs from one to the other. Probably just wishful thinking. Which livebearers are your favourite Rob, personally mine are silver sailfin mollies. I don't think you can go past the gorgeous "sailfin" on the males.
  11. They are doing the usual clicking sounds and courting motions, then dissappearing inyo yhe cave, my lfs said that they are more than likely trying to mate or are actually achieving it but eating the results. I have not done anything to encourage them as I was of te belief it is virtually impossible to have them mate in the home aquaria. i was actually concerned that they were trying to kill each other that is why I brought it up with the lfs. They are kept in a community tank. Personally, I don't like my chances of getting any fry from it, but you can always hope.
  12. I have 5 tanks, ranging from 20L to 250L. I also another about to be brought inside after making sure it doesn't leak (hopefully), it is a 220L. We are hoping to build another 2 over the next week or so (thankyou pegasus)lol. Out of my tanks, I have one livebearer tank that also has bumblebee gobies in it, 3 community, and 1 qt. My community tanks hold gouramis, rbs, chinese ae's, barbs, clown loaches, giant danios, angels, silver sharks, killies, kuhlis, fighters, kribs, I think that is it but may be wrong. Our tank that is about to start cycling is for tiger oscars. At the moment the only fish I have had breed are the livebearers (obviously), kribs and fighters. The clowns keep laying but also keep eating. Oh, well will have to keep trying. I haven't had any real disasters as far as my tanks go, and the only recent death I have had was a black ghost knife who i found in the tank yesterday morning with all of his body there but his head totally missing. I'm guessing somebody got hungry. He was only 5cm.
