  1. oh sorry, forgot to say that - id build a wooden stand and have a class sliding front and mesh at one end, making a final enclosure of that size.
  2. are those reptile one tubes enough for UV? it has a hood with lights so was going to use on in there - or i could leave hood off, and get clip on lights - so there is air circulation (if clip ons are are available? or i could use standard fitting UV bulb and put it in a desk lamp) and a heat pad. would a tank that size with lid off be ok short term though? it would then probably go into one 1600Lx600X600 - so it won't be in there for an extended period - maybe 4 monthsish? tank that side would fit where m looking at putting it.
  3. actually - would housing near the kitchen would be gross full stop with the selmonela factor?
  4. Im just starting to think about getting a Beardie hatchling - and am going around in circles trying to work out if I'm able to house one in an old tank as he is growing? its about 900wx400wx490H? there seems to be so much conflicting into out there! my plan is to build a long low enclosure - but so save building it and having it sit 6 months till i can afford a hatchling, will one be ok in the old tank for a few months? are they ok outside in Auckland - fully enclosed on a fairly shelteredish deck, with lots of daytime sun + lamps and heat mats? - or for at least the summer? I'm assuming running costs would just be hither outside. other option is to have a long enclosure on my bench - how skittish are they? id like to have it double sided so i can see it from both sides, would this really be too much stress?
  5. what will it look like if it is toughened through the glasses?
  6. I got a bunch of glass sheets out of the bins where I live - its got a greenish tint and the edges are finished, they are sanded smooth and have a bit of a bevel. sheet are 41mlx56ml, and its 12ml thick. will it be sweet to make a terrarium from? how do i tell what type of glass it is, or does it not really matter?
  7. would burned alive not just smell like over done roast?
  8. whats the significance or using cinder blocks? like, I'm pretty sure they didn't use them traditionally - is it just a western adaptation that they don't do in japan, or is it just a new thing cause they are strong?
  9. they are relevant but at this point we'd be adding a coloum saying "there are some alive fish in the tank" exactly what would we be looking at with them?
  10. looking at the alive fish is a bit counterproductive - it may just be that they haven't dies yet. at least not untill we can narrow down the possibilities more.
  11. fish food wasn't intentionally left out, i will go and add it now. for me the issue started 6 months ago - so i don't know the specifics of water tests, but they were all within normal ranges - except for the ammonia when a fish died at night and was in there till morning.
  12. good point - I've changed it to include that, and moved a few into that column.
  13. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aq0aWY_lcy8idEZnLUZrdmhiWGY4czg4MXpRTnhTeGc spread sheet is up... i think people should be able to see that.
  14. working on it. for those effected, can you please list following info for me to save some time: water source fish effected total number dead purchased from approx date purchase approx date of deaths ph peramiters Nitrate Nirite Amonia temp ferts/additives
  15. thats fine - sorry if my post was a bit dismissive, it wasn't meaning to, appreciate the input into working out what it could be I only had the one tank running too, it wasn't untill i moved after that entire tank was killed off that i started my loach tank i s=currently have. so its not a sharing nets/equipment here too - and the fish sharing was after this all started (I'm pretty sure my yellows died before i took your hybrids eh disgustipated?) they died jan ish om pretty sure i took your hybrids before your birthday and after jan?
  16. but if it were from one importer surely it would be more widespread than the north shore? or even just auckland members? And it was suggested that it were from one source store - but there was objection to suggesting as such.
  17. mine have had no relation to water changes that i can see. some deaths were pre water change, some days after. deaths are all well within 24 hours of noticing a fish looking off - mostly within 4-6 hours.
  18. all off us bar one have purchased fish form one or all of 3 shops. I don't think any of us have said it MUST have been from one store, or person - but that logically there must be some link we have between us? its all speculation - and untill anyone can concussively tell me what the source is, and any prevention and treatment i can use I'm going to continue to speculate.
  19. and then can we please have a new forum entitled "bacteria"/"other term" where it would be more appropriate to move this discussion to.
  20. and at this point does it matter if it is a bacteria or disease? i am referring to it as "disease" because there is no real other term to use when dealing with an unknown cause of fish deaths that is spreading, likely has one root source (?) and is resulting in so many deaths. please let me know if there is a more appropriate term to use when talking about an unknown issue. perhaps we should call it "spontaneous fish combustion/death" as disgustipated suggested to me the other day.
  21. are accusations not warranted at some point when there have been 50+ (rough estimate here, could be more) deaths have occurred? where are we able to discuss this further if this topic is not welcome on this forum? how are we supposed to find out what IS happening if we cannot discuss it, and try and find links (which incidentally is all we are doing naming stores and businesses)
  22. shoulda let me cut up falcor. actually, its probably pretty good you didn't - coulda ended up infecting myself with tb or something.
  23. was it an auckland based member?
  24. i was counting the hospital africans in my count. whatever it is - there is quite clearly an outbreak of it in auckland/north shore and the source of it needs to be found, stopped from spreading, and identified and people warned of any risks in purchasing their fish.
  25. sorry, thought id missed someone. how many have you had die? i will add those details in too
