  1. I know I am being greedy... they were such a pretty pair.
  2. Would be okay temporily though?
  3. I have recently brought a breeding pair of kribs and have them in a 54l (will get bigger tank in a few months) I have just seen another breeding pair at a fish shop where I am on holiday (very cheap), which the fish shop are holding for me. My prob is that they have recently breed and the shop owner thinks they may have killed the other couple of fish in the tank. Is this common? Or would it not be a good idea to put them in with my other pair. No point buying one if they are going to kill the other. My other option is to temporarily put them in that tank and then give away my convicts and use that tank. Also the pair in the fish shop - their babies are 2 weeks old would they be okay on their own I thought they would be okay as there is nothing else in the tank. The owner wasnt sure. Am heading back tomorrow afternoon so hoping to make a decision tomorrow morning.
  4. I have a heater that I think must be about a 50w in the 54L tank and its fine over summer but now I cant get it above 22 degrees so I am going to get a 100w as I just brought one for my other 54L and its working really well and doesnt even have a lid yet. Buying on TM as they are very cheap.
  5. I was going to get it out the other day but in the end got The Hangover... fantastic movie, very funny. Was a much better choice.
  6. People are having babies at that age... so way not fish...
  7. Once a girl at the local fish shop insisted I needed a KH tester (KH can effect PH apparently)... well that was a waste of $62... so be careful with what shops recommend. Also sometimes its cheaper to let a sick fish die and buy a new one... I threw about $50 at a fish I paid $5 for once and it still died. I tell you these people see me coming. Good luck with your tank.
  8. where? I am in Auckland too. Keen to get on that size and thats a great price.
  9. Planning on getting some as soon as I can find another tank - looking for decent sized tank now... my biggest tank is 90L and its just not big enough.
  10. Loving the updates. Do you find the rams easy to keep? Have only had platy fry so far and am waiting for my kribs to pair up (if they do) and am looking for something else to breed.
  11. Interested in starting up a brine shrimp hatchery myself - how did you go about setting it up?
  12. Im another fish addict on the shore. There heaps of us about. My prob is not shops selling me too many fish but me not being able to stop myself everytime I see a fish I like - hence a hunt for tank number 3 (And 4 if I had my way).

Have to possible options for bigger tank 90l and 160L on TM, so will see what they go for.

    Tank No3

Size does matter eh!!!! The reason for another small tank was money and space. I have been eyeing up lovely big tanks with stands on trade me but as an at home mum with no private income I cant see it happening right now. At least a 54L is fairly cheap to set up. Also trying to find tank with filter at the very least. Had a look at new filters today and dear lord!!! With a 54L or approx size it would fit on top of my other one once he makes a stand (though I am still waiting for my light lid and tank divider). Of course as I write this I now realise I must have a bigger tank....sigh... you are all right. Going to be some sweet talking and greasing happening tonight. I will try to put some pics on tonight of the hole in the wall. Its hard to photograph though as very little space to stand back. Thanks for all the advice... but you do realise now I will be awake all night planning all the fish I could get for an even bigger tank.
  15. Stunning... makes me want to have some myself.

    Tank No3

Yay! I have decided I NEED and MUST HAVE at all costs... TANK NUMBER 3. Have decided to get a 54L like my 2nd tank so that my lovely husband can build a nice tankstand to house them one on top of the other. He has already kindly built tank No1 in to a hole in the wall on the stairs with a wooden frame. I think he is beginning to worry about when this obsession will end and whether we will need to need to remortgage to support my fish habit (I considered it this weekend with the opening sale at Jansens Manukau - what a deal on those tanks). Am looking on trade me now - though some I have seen seem to be the same price as what I paid new for my last one so may need quick trip to the petshop to compare. Going to try and set it up as cheaply as poss to please the powers that be. Not a hundred percent sure what I will put in it yet whether to just use it as a babytank or get more fish. I will probably get more fish.
  17. Looks great... how did you get the plants to attach to the rocks?
  18. Mulford Plastics in Sylvia Park - cheaper than bunnings as thats whom they sell to.
  19. I have other types of gouramis with platties and I have found I need to remove the babies as they will definitely get eaten by the gouramis. Other wise fine.
  20. I had the same problem a few months ago and it was not caused by too much light as my fish tank is set into the wall on my stairs so has very little natural light hitting it. I tried water changes to get rid of it but it wasnt till I used a product called CLEAR (think its by tetra) that it went. That did upset the PH balence a bit, but it got rid of the problem and I havent had it back since.

    worms?

Well I went to Pet Shop number 1 and got told it was bacterial and I needed Furan - 2 , which wasnt in stock. So I went to pet shop number 2 and was told the symptoms seemed like worms but as I now had another sick fish that was bacterial, I ended up needing Furan-2, Worming Med and Melafix to treat both tanks. At great expense to the management I might add. I should be thankful I didnt need to go to Pet Shop number 3.

    worms?

Did you find a solution? I have a few skinny and unhappy looking fish myself and am looking to fix the problem. Looked it up on a webite and looks like it could be internal parasites. Am on the way to the petshop tomorrow to see how much it will cost me. The ironic thing is I have 3 different shops I could go to and I am sure they would give me three different medications for three different problems.

    PH ??????

The water has been tested recently and was fine, it was till after I treated it for algae that I have had PH problems.
