  1. the bottom fish in the first photo looks like a tropheus duboisi - probably yellow band not sure about the hap in that photo and the other 2 fish are probably ice blue zebras.
  2. thanks - went into the room the other day and found that my air pump had been unplugged and half the fish were at the top gasping for air - so i set up a second pump and 2 450ltr/h filter heads with an airation atachment so there is plenty of oxygen in the tank. i will feed them some peas, algae and stuff see if they like it - ive found that some of my fish eg. lithobates and baenschi - completely ignor most vege that i try feed them but my kenyi and red zebras LOVE it!! did you get any fry from them?
  3. i just got three labeotropheus trewavasae the red top ones have they got diferent feeding requirement or are they the same as most mbuna?? one of them is already holding - lasted the whole tripfrom the pet shop to the tank without spitting  male http://s1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd450/causedfaun0/?action=view&current=IMG_3076.jpg female http://s1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd450/causedfaun0/?action=view&current=IMG_3072.jpg both http://s1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd450/causedfaun0/?action=view&current=IMG_3081.jpg has anyone got any experience with these fish?
  4. best idea would probably a couple male kadangos or some of the more red aulonocara species
  5. if that has just hapened in the time you have put new hiding spots or caves in the tank it il be that there cuting themselves on them or there beating each other up
  6. RIGHT - measured tank - it is 75long x35high x35deep
  7. Yep - I completely rearranged everything. Everyone seems in perfect health - swimming and eating etc.. - (aside from being dead LOL) - the ones that were killed are both the brighter ones, so I am guessing they were males? As for the size - they are all pretty small at present - most of them are about 3cm long. But there are a couple that are about 5cm, and I wonder if they are the bullies? The weird thing - is that generally speaking - the tank looks empty - when you go into the room, you have to watch for a while to see them darting out and around the caves etc.. - there are enough crevices and caves that everyone seems to have one. So - do you think I can assume that they will sort out some kind of a pecking order, and stop the killing? - or will it be a last man standing kind of event?
  8. Hi I have a tank that is about 80l, and I have 15 demasoni in it. I have loads of rocks and caves etc.. I started out with 8 - that were all the same size - with no problems. But last week I purchased another 7 and added them. A couple of them are bigger than the ones i had. So they have been co-existing for about a week. Today I have had two deaths - with one poor little demasoni with its tail ripped off! Do I need to take the bigger ones out? - or will they sort themselves? Thanks
  9. Thanks to those people who have offered advice. I have a variety of african cichlids - electric yellows, demasoni, kenyi, peacocks, fryeri, kandango, and blue dolphins I will try the frozen vege idea - I have not done that. Thanks heaps - and I look forward to anyone else contributing ideas. My local fish man is not super knowledgable about cichlids so it is great to get some expert views.

    cichlid food

Hi all Just out of interest - what are you feeding your cichlids? - and is there a particular place to get it? I have seen some people selling stuff online, and am wondering if anyone has tried them. I have also heard that there are some cheaper places to buy food? I am currenlty using a cichlid sinking pellet - but am wondering if I should diversify as my fish do not seem to be growing particularly quickly. Thanks
  11. There are some red zebras in the tank, and also some electric yellows and two electric blues.
