Phoenix44, the picture of them is next to my name. I have no idea of their sex but i call the blue one George and the orange one Mildred. Do not know how old they are but i would say George is quite young. Adrienne...I think I better feed them more often and do 2 x cubes of frozen blood worms instead of the one they have been getting. They are a great pair, the first discus i had was very aggressive but this time these two get on extremely well. Perhaps they will breed at some stage.

My tank is 120litres, i do 3 buckets of water changes no less than every two days and they are now fed every day instead of every second day. they have normal fish flakes and freeze dried worms and the next days's feed is fish flakes and frozen blood worms. I got them both from a reputable pet shop. can't think that i am not doing all the things that should be done. they do not look stunted i.e. their eyes are not bulging nor are the discus pinched as mentioned in post above. how long does it normally take for discus to grow to full size?

...i have had two discus for about 6 months but they have not grown. Does anyone know what can stop, or slow down, discus from growing please.

if it is caused by too many nutrients i would have thought fertiliser would increase it. how do you tell if there are too many nutrients...is there some sort of water kit?

What causes this awful cyano problem? I have not even had it in my tank for ages and now all of a sudden there it is.

..not sure if this is what is in my tank or not. There are patches of light green, almost powdery looking patches on the top of the silica sand in my tank. Would this be cyanobacteria? if so how am i suddenly getting it and what can be done?

have glass on top of the tank so he has not jumped out he would have been about 2 inches I guess.

...i have two discus and six golden barbs in the tank. is it likely any of these might have eaten the golden algae eater?

Changed the tank 2-3 months ago. how long does the new tank phase last? Any ides on what plants would be best and would not get eaten?

Here is a picture of my tank - I may have over exaggerated the number of plants I have in my tank - there is java fern and the tall plant at the back middle that I don't know the name of. I used to have a sword of some sort and twisted val but the naughty golden barbs ate and pulled them apart. I don't use an fertilizers or anything like that. Before I got this tank I had a 40L Jebo and transferred the media from that tank into the new filter when this one was setup. I do about a 30% water change weekly. i think i might be over feeding as there is still some food left in the tank after 5 minutes. Thanks

i have plenty of plants and the light is on for 8 hours per day.

the light is on about 6 hrs per day. i change the water every week. have had the tank about 3 months so the filter should be okay i would have thought.

..in my 120 litre tank. I have had suggestions of getting otos to help clean it up but someone has suggested it has been caused by overfeeding. Does anyone know if this could be the cause?

My 120litre tank has white silica sand on the bottom. About 3-4 days after the tank has been cleaned and the sand stirred up brown patches which I assume are a type of algae appear. Does anyone know why it is happening and what can be done about it please.

It says 100 watts.

i guess it is 300 watts...that is all it has got on the box.

I have a 120 litre tank and about 3 1/2 weeks ago bought a new Eheim Jager 25-300 W heater. It is set at 30 degrees but the light never goes off and the thermometer consistently shows between 24-27 degrees. Any suggestions please.

Yes, and so are my two discus.

...one of them keeps shadowing the other one. no aggression at all, just shadowing. Also the other one sometimes "leans over" and i understand this is a sign of submission. Can anyone tell me what the meaning of the shadowing of the other discus means please.

Zayne, where did you get your discus from please. I see you are in Upper Hutt, I am in Wellington. Did you have to order them or have you found somewhere that has discus regularly?
